Van Diemen Land Creamery Waterfront Punt

Fresh Tassie milk and locally sourced ingredients are the secret sauce to Van Diemen Land Creamery‘s scrumptious scoops.

There’s no better place to indulge in this iconic local export’s goodies than on their floating punt. And yes, vegan scoops are available, too, with added fava bean protein for extra creaminess.

‘Zen Gelato

Ice Cream simply tastes better when served from a sunshine-yellow van. Fact.

You can hire the ‘Zen Gelato van for your very own event, but if you’re looking to sample a scoop, head to the weekly Hobart Twilight Market, where flavours like coffee & wattleseed, blackberry & fennel and lavender blueberry ripple are yours to drool over.

The Devil’s Own Ice Creamery

Right around the corner from the park (our favourite spot to eat ice cream!), you’ll find The Devil’s Own Ice Creamery. These guys use premium Jersey milk to make the creamiest ice cream possible. Everything they serve is gluten-free, and for the dairy-free amongst us, TDOIC uses separate vats to craft their delicious sorbets.

Faba Gelateria

Halfway between Hobart and Launceston sits Faba Gelateria, a tiny Midlands gem turning seasonal Tasmanian produce into silky, small-batch scoops. Flavours shift with the region’s orchards and farms, landing bright, pure and beautifully crafted. It’s the road-trip pause that feels serendipitous; a little cup of joy on the long stretch north or south.

Ice Creamery & Co.

Ice Creamery & Co.

Set near the curve of Coles Bay, Ice Creamery & Co. dishes up Tassie-made scoops with a beach-day spirit. Flavours lean creamy and bright, best enjoyed outdoors with the Hazards rising in the background. It’s the ideal post-Freycinet treat — a sweet pause between saltwater swims, coastal walks and unhurried afternoons on the peninsula.

Van Diemens Land Creamery Cafe & Factory

Van Diemens Land Creamery was created by people who really know their milk — a Tasmanian dairy farming family — back in 2005. Their difference lies in using fresh, Tasmanian milk, paired with local flavours like leatherwood honey, lavender, olive oil and whisky.

Whilst they’re stocked all over the state, we recommend swinging by one of their stores to taste scoops straight from the pan. You can even take a peep through the window to see the ice cream in production. But where to start? Some favourites include salted lime, feijoa, Jamaican rum & rasin and boysenberry ripple.

Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe

Whilst this heavenly spot isn’t a dedicated ice cream bar, they still manage to craft some of the best in the state. How? Raspberries picked fresh from their farm! Churned fresh on-site, you can choose from ice cream or sorbet.

Just 35 minutes out of Launceston, Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe is worth a special journey, but a visit can also be woven into a larger Tamar Valley food odyssey.

If you’re looking to lean right into raspberry season, you can also score a serve of this impeccable ice cream with their pancakes, crepes, waffles and sundae.
