FARRA

FARRA is the new Greek dining destination located within the newly opened HYDE Hotel on Pier Street in Perth’s CBD. In the kitchen, Irish-born and Greek Island-trained Executive Chef Aaron Moore (ex-Bread in Common) has nailed the brief, with a produce-led menu that nods to traditional Greek recipes while keeping plates fresh and super shareable. If it’s your first time, you have to start with their signature bread basket and trio dips, which features a selection of warm house-baked bread alongside bowls of tzatziki, Santorini fava and taramasalata. The flame-kissed lamb tomahawk finished with tyrokafteri (a spicy feta and roast pepper dip) is another standout that deserves a spot on your table.

We should also point out that FARRA’s meze is available across the hotel’s poolside terrace and rooftop bar, making it perfect for a progressive long lunch.

Tigerfish

Tigerfish (the Cottesloe Beach Hotel’s new South East Asian-inspired bar and restaurant) has turned plenty of heads since opening its doors. With beachfront ambience and bold interiors designed by the same crew who brought Chin Chin to life in Melbourne, it’s the kind of spot that instantly impresses. And thankfully, the food and drink actually lives up to the hype too. Slide in at sunset for a Junmai Ginger Martini or a bottle of something crisp paired with bar bites like wonton bombs, prawn toast spring rolls and Albany rock oysters. For something more substantial, book a table in the main restaurant where pork belly, lamb ribs and premium wagyu sirloin arrive fresh from the robata grill, and delicate parcels of fish are served alongside bright herbs and heavenly curry sauce.

The beautifully designed space strikes the perfect balance between moody and welcoming, with travertine finishes, warm timber tones and softly lit corners made for lingering over another glass. On the menu, you’ll find handmade pasta, creative Italian snacks and aperitivo classics, all backed by one of the city’s most exciting wine lists. Must-try dishes include the Rottnest Swordfish belly skewer served with capsicum agrodolce, Shark Bay prawn sandwich and linguine alle vongole. And to finish? A slab of tiramisu, of course.

The béarnaise burger at Bistro Massilia in Inglewood.
Bistro Massilia (Credit: Danica Zuks)

Bistro Massilia

The former Cecchi site on Beaufort Street has entered an exciting new era with the addition of Bistro Massilia, a Euro-inspired neighbourhood bistro from hospitality veteran David Pille (ex-General Manager at Besk). While Pille has taken the reins, the venue remains in the hands of the site’s original owners Mark and Kylee Cecchi (the duo formerly behind beloved local: Cecchi Italian), preserving the community spirit that made the address such a local favourite.

Head Chef Matt Mills (whose experience spans Michelin-starred kitchens in the UK and some of Perth’s best-known venues) leads the menu, dishing up European comforts backed by WA produce and Michelin technique. Must-order dishes include the now-famous béarnaise burger for two (pictured above), served halved atop a pool of silky sauce; the swordfish cotoletta with bouillabaisse, poached mussels and chervil butter; and the coquillettes jambon, a nostalgic French take on mac and cheese enriched with ham, mushrooms and Comté. Add a thoughtful wine list and neighbourhood warmth, and it’s easy to see why Bistro Massilia is already one of Beaufort Street’s hottest tables.

Brighton Wine Bar

Breathing new life into Scarborough’s iconic beachfront dining strip, Brighton Wine Bar has transformed the former Wild Fig site into one of Perth’s most exciting new drinking and dining destinations. Co-owned by Scarborough locals Ben Randall, Marion McAllister and Lauren Nolan, the venue champions a proudly WA-first philosophy, with a solid all-Australian wine list featuring more than 200 bottles (the majority sourced from Western Australia) and a premium by-the-glass offering. The Mediterranean-inspired menu showcases premium local produce, with popular plates such as handmade seafood ravioli with vongole and saffron foam, picanha beef with salsa verde and saffron cassava purée, and freshly baked focaccia served with za’atar butter. The uninterrupted ocean views are really just the cherry on top.

A teishoku set at Nico Japanese.
Nico Japanese

Nico Japanese

Nico means smile, and honestly that’s the only reasonable reaction after stepping into this quaint Japanese dining gem. Located on Royal St in East Perth, Nico Japanese serves home-style teishoku meal sets and meticulous plates of premium dry-aged sashimi in a cosy indoor-outdoor setting. Sit inside and you’ll have front row seats to the Japanese chefs working with precision and care in the tiny open kitchen. While outside offers a romantic streetside ambience perfect for date nights.

Once seated, start with something raw — the sashimi is up there with the best in Perth and uses only fresh, local seafood, dry aged in-house — then take your pick of dons or teishoku sets for mains. For an unforgettable melt-in-your mouth experience, we’d also highly recommend finding room for the Futari Wagyu Flank MB 8+ on your table. Lightly seared, the steak remains tender and pink with yuzu chilli paste, fresh wasabi and Smoked Maldon Flake Salt on the side, inviting you to build your own perfectly seasoned mouthful.

Tacos at Masa Mesa.
Masa Mesa (Credit: Shot By Thom)

Masa Mesa

Nedlands now has a serious Latin American flavour fix with the arrival of Masa Mesa. The new eatery is the long-time dream of Chef Erick Martinez (ex-Tiny’s, Duende, Andaluz Bar & Tapas and, most recently, private members’ club Lawson Flats) and his wife Lara, bringing together Erick’s El Salvadoran roots and Lara’s Argentinian heritage in a comforting menu and relaxed space both built for sharing.

Pupusas are the star of the show — golden griddled mesa (corn) tortillas stuffed with fillings like cheese and pork, or spinach and black beans, served with a tangy slaw and fresh salsa. You’ll also find empanadas, tacos, smoky asado-style meats cooked over a traditional Argentinian parrilla grill, plus churros and alfajores for dessert. Thirsty? Horchata, agua fresca and boozy Latin American-inspired cocktails are all here too.

Best New Pubs and Casual Restaurants in Perth

Molly’s

Highgate fave, Molly’s, has recently expanded, with a second Irish pub now pouring Guinness and good craic in East Victoria Park. Much like the Beaufort St original, the new pub pays homage to the Emerald Isle with its authentic (cheeky) Irish charm and much-loved eats and drinks. Yes, their truly legendary (and Perth’s first) spice bag is here in all its crispy, comforting, curry-sauced deliciousness, alongside beef and Guinness pies made with Butter Crumbs pastry, and a steak sandwich inspired by traditional Chip Shops.

To wash it down? The bar is pouring Irish brews like Guinness, Kilkenny and Magners Irish Cider alongside cocktails and Jameson and apple slushies. Throw on quiz nights, sports screenings, Mo Chara Mondays and Sunday roasts, and this local will be embedded into the local community in no time.

McNally’s

Guinness? Tick. Outrageously good spice bags? Tick. Live music and hearty Sunday roasts? Tick tick. Subiaco’s new Irish pub, McNally’s, has all the essentials. What you might not expect, though, is the elevated art-deco-inspired fitout (brand new, but with a lived-in feel) and expansive wine cellar dedicated to good reds. There’s also a lovely streetfront gazebo perfect for pints with a side of people watching, and open fireplaces that make for cosy nights during winter.

FAQs

Perth’s strongest new openings of 2026 span a good range of cuisines and suburbs. For a special occasion, FARRA at the HYDE Hotel in the CBD brings Greek-inspired meze and a multi-space format that works across an entire evening, while Pearla & Co. in North Fremantle is the pick for serious seafood. For neighbourhood dining, Il Santo in Claremont and Bistro Massilia on Beaufort Street in Inglewood are both generating strong word of mouth. Brighton Wine Bar has also made a confident arrival on Scarborough’s beachfront, with a WA-focused wine list of more than 200 bottles and a Mediterranean-inspired menu.

For a genuinely memorable meal at one of Perth’s newest venues, FARRA at the HYDE Hotel is the strongest option in the CBD. Executive Chef Aaron Moore’s produce-led menu is built around shareable Greek-inspired meze, with the lamb tomahawk and signature bread and dip trio among the standout dishes. Pearla & Co. in North Fremantle is the other top contender, with a seafood-focused kitchen that dry-ages fish in-house and sources shellfish sustainably from Western Australian waters. Both venues suit couples and groups and benefit from a booking made well in advance.

Several of Perth’s most interesting 2026 bar openings are attached to strong food programs rather than operating as standalone drink venues. Brighton Wine Bar in Scarborough leads on the wine side, with a 200-plus bottle list that draws heavily from Western Australian producers and a premium by-the-glass offering. Tigerfish at Cottesloe Beach Hotel is the pick for cocktails and bar bites in a beachfront setting, with a South East Asian-inspired menu that holds up well against the view. For something more pub-focused, McNally’s in Subiaco and the expanded Molly’s in East Victoria Park both do Irish hospitality well, with spice bags, live music and Sunday roasts.

Most of the noteworthy 2026 openings are in inner suburban locations rather than concentrated in the CBD. Il Santo has landed on Claremont’s St Quentin Avenue, bringing handmade pasta and an ambitious wine list to Perth’s western suburbs. Bistro Massilia has taken over the former Cecchi site on Beaufort Street in Highgate, with a French-leaning menu from a chef with Michelin-starred kitchen experience. Bar Olé has opened on the Swan River foreshore in Applecross, and Masa Mesa brings El Salvadoran and Argentinian cooking to Hampden Road in Nedlands. Baillie Hill in East Victoria Park is the most family-friendly of the group, with a bakery, pub, garden bar and woodfired pizza all on one heritage site.

Several of the best new Perth openings of 2026 are well set up for group dining. Bar Olé in Applecross seats 240 people across its Swan River foreshore venue and is built around shareable tapas and paella, making it a natural fit for larger tables. Baillie Hill in East Victoria Park offers multiple dining options across the one site, from the pub to the garden bar, which suits groups who want flexibility. FARRA at the HYDE Hotel has a meze-style menu designed for sharing and multiple spaces that work for different group sizes. For something more casual, Molly’s in East Victoria Park or McNally’s in Subiaco are both pub-format venues with quiz nights and Sunday roasts that lend themselves well to group bookings.
