Consider this up-to-date summary of food and wine news in Perth your cheat sheet to eating well—and eating first.

A Cult Matcha Favourite Is Landing in Fremantle

FOMO Fremantle is about to get a serious matcha moment. From Sunday 1st of February, cult market favourite Love You So Matcha will officially open at the buzzing dining and retail precinct.

The much-loved pop-up brand, founded by Japanese mother-daughter duo Aileen and Yoko, is known for treating matcha with the care it deserves — using organic, ceremonial-grade tea sourced from Japan and whisked by hand for a smooth, mellow, gently sweet cup that’s as calming as it is craveable.

‘No Weight Day’ Returns To Berry Bae

If you love a good açai bowl, you’ll know about Berry Bae. The self-serve açai bar in Leederville serves premium açai alongside a tasty selection of toppings, from fresh fruit, granola and peanut butter to edible choc chip cookie dough and Dubai chocolate filling. Normally, they operate based on a weigh and pay pricing model, meaning the harder you go on those toppings, the pricier your bowl. But for one day only, they’re throwing that out the window and introducing a $10 flat fee. If you love to load up, you’ll wanna get down on Sunday January 18th, when you can fill your bowl as much as you like without paying any extra. They only do this once a year, so don’t be surprised to see a line out the door.

This Watermelon Granita Has Hit Cult-Status

The constant lines out the door should be enough to tell you Cuccini’s sweet treats are the real deal. But it’s their much-loved watermelon granita that really has us (and half of Perth) hooked right now. A wildly refreshing blend of watermelon and lemongrass granita, topped with a scoop of sorbet or gelato, this frosty sip is everything you could dream of on a hot summer day—and every bit deserving of its cult status. Thankfully, the legends have brought it back over summer, so if you’re yet to indulge, now’s the time! It’s also the perfect booze-free thing to do with a mate or a date. Get in while you can.

Scott Bridger Unveils New Seaside Kitchen, Pearla & Co.

North Fremantle is set for a new coastal arrival, with Pearla & Co. opening Wednesday 3rd of December under the direction of celebrated chef Scott Bridger.

The launch marks Bridger’s return to Leighton Beach, the shoreline where he helped define Perth’s modern beachside dining scene as co-founder, co-owner and executive chef of Bib & Tucker. At Pearla & Co., he continues that legacy with a menu centred on WA seafood, dry-aged fish and produce sourced from growers he’s worked alongside for years.

“Pearla & Co. is about simple things done beautifully — the kind of food you want to eat with friends, made with produce you actually care about,” says Bridger.

The former Al Lupo site has been refreshed with recycled materials, crafted finishes and a striking Verde Indio bar, plus an open cold station for oysters and seafood prepared to order. A FoodCube garden at the entrance supplies herbs and edible leaves picked fresh each morning, reinforcing the venue’s connection to land and coast.

The name reflects both excellence — a “pearler” — and the community of fishers, growers and makers represented in the “Co.”, while also slipping in a cheeky nod to his nan, Pearl.

Bookings are available here.

Shorehouse Named Best Restaurant Third Year Straight

Showcasing Western Australia’s seafood along with Mediterranean flavours, quality wine and oceanfront views, The Shorehouse never fails to impress. So we’re not too surprised to hear the beachside stunner was just named Best Restaurant (Perth Metro) at last night’s AHA Awards for the third year straight. To add to the celebrations, the venue was also inducted into the AHA Wall of Fame, with the award a reflection of the venue’s consistent quality year after year and dedication to nurturing top talent.

Fellow Kailis Hospitalty Group venue, Gibney, also cleaned up at this year’s awards, taking home a string of awards too for its wine list, head chef, restaurant manager and more.

A New Farm-To-Fork Dining Mecca Only 30 Minutes From Perth

A new chapter has begun at 11 Acre Farm in Forrestdale with the opening of The Good Paddock—a farm-to-fork restaurant that blends rustic charm, thoughtful dining and a deep connection to the land.

Led by head chef Sufendi “Fendi” Bong and supported by an a-list team, including former Millbrook Winery gardener Mitchell Seward, the kitchen draws directly from the farm’s orchards, gardens and permaculture beds, creating seasonal menus that honour produce at its freshest. Expect nourishing breakfast bowls and farmhouse-style omelettes in the morning, followed by shared burrata plates, spring crudo and hearty mains like pork with greens or fisherman’s broth later in the day.

More than just a restaurant, it’s a place to linger. Families are warmly welcomed, with sprawling gardens, play areas and the newly relaunched Cubby Kiosk, serving coffee, baked treats and easy grab-and-go meals for little ones and grown-ups exploring the property. Farm animals are also on site, so you can take the kids out to meet roaming alpacas, sheep, goats, bunnies and a variety of heritage-breed chickens while you’re there.

The Good Paddock feels both grounded and generous, where long lunches, special celebrations or quiet moments in nature come with orchard views and the scent of woodsmoke and herbs in the air. With pop-up dinners and seasonal events on the horizon, this new semi-rural farm restaurant just 30 minutes from Perth is set to become one of the city’s most memorable dining experiences.

A Sleek New Smoothie Bar Serving Erewhon-Level Blends

Collagen, goji, wild blueberry extract and activated charcoal… Blendcraft’s ingredient list is enough to put Hayley Bieber’s go-to smoothie to shame. Owner Andrew Browne isn’t trying to pull celebs, though. The health-conscious father sees the new smoothie bar, now open in Hawaiian’s Melville, as an important third place for friends and families. One where all ages can share in a healthy little treat.

The menu offers a curated mix of elevated smoothies designed to nourish body and mind, from protein-packed brekky blends and energy-boosting sips, to signature styles loaded with fresh fruit and superfoods. There’s even a Little Blender menu just for kids, plus, a cabinet of healthy bites and coffee too. Grab and go as part of your daily routine, or settle outside on the shady picnic tables, right by the playground, and enjoy.

Boatshed Market: Perth’s Answer to Erewhon—But Better

Perth’s Boatshed Market has been hailed as Australia’s answer to Erewhon, the ultra-luxe LA supermarket famed for its organic produce and cult-status hot bar. But according to foodies, Boatshed might be even better. Housed in a former boat-building facility, this refined grocer delivers top-tier produce, an ever-changing hot food counter, a dedicated cheese shop, and a world-class fishmonger. The Wine Loft and Boto Teppanyaki Japanese restaurant elevate the experience further.

With a hyper-focus on premium local ingredients, it’s a bougie food lover’s paradise—like Erewhon, but with an Aussie soul and a whole lot more flavour!

The team behind The Rowing Pavilion and General Public Food Co — Mark Pearn, Nic Strachan, and Evan Hewitt — are set to open Bert’s at City Beach this Friday 3rd of October. The new venue (replacing Odyssea) pays homage to the historic 1930s–70s “Bert’s Shop,” once a local surf hangout and tea room.

Bert’s will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, takeaway coffee, and a menu of seasonal, locally sourced dishes including pizzas, sides, and shares. Designed with Woods Bagot, the space blends timbered heritage with contemporary coastal style, reflecting a casual, beachside vibe.

The restaurant aims to celebrate the local community and surf culture, bringing a nostalgic yet modern twist to City Beach.

Coastal King Kailis Looks North, With a $12 Million Beach Buy

Perth restaurateur and undisputed king of coastal dining George Kailis (Gibney, The Shorehouse, Magic Apple and more) has just secured a landmark $12 million purchase in Sorrento that promises to bring a world-class beachside hospitality precinct to Perth’s north.

Committing to the entire hospitality space attached to the high-end Ora Sorrento residential development on West Coast Drive, the unprecedented investment includes 1000sqm of prime beachfront hospitality real estate, which Kailis already has solid plans for.

“We will endeavour to set a new benchmark for hospitality in Perth’s northern suburbs with high quality, unique restaurant offers that are very different to what currently exists. We are also committed to an extremely high level of interior design which will showcase the brands and the panoramic ocean views over Sorrento beach,” he said.

Kailis and the KHG team are keen to replicate the success of their Cottesloe fine diner, Gibney, by engaging Rezen Studios—the designers behind Gibney’s jaw-dropping fit out—to bring this new vision to life. And they’ll also be carrying across key members of their award-winning hospitality team, like Group Sommelier Nina Throsby and Group Bar Director James Gentile, to ensure the new hospitality offering is every bit as impressive.

With so much real estate on hand, KKG will be operating as both tenant and landlord, bringing three to four complementary venues together for one integrated vision—a challenge Rezen Studio Director Zenifra Bowring is excited to take on.

“The opportunity to design multiple restaurant concepts within such a unique coastal precinct is incredibly rare,” said Bowring.

“The scale of this project, combined with its beachfront location, provides us with the chance to create a truly world-class dining environment. Following the success of Gibney, we’re excited to collaborate again with KHG to deliver distinctive hospitality experiences that will set a new benchmark for Perth’s northern suburbs.”

They say good things take time, so don’t expect to be dining here anytime soon. KHG expects to commence work on the hospitality spaces in late 2026 / early 2027, with opening dates still very much TBC. For now, you can follow Ora Sorrento and Kailis Hospitality Group for updates.

Crown Perth To Welcome Moody New Wine Bar, Gladstones

Whether you’re at Crown for a show, dropping in after a game at Optus Stadium or staying a while, the new space will offer a dedicated wine oasis for locals and visitors alike.

Gladstones is the first venue to be unveiled as part of the new Urban Food District, marking the biggest investment in Crown Perth in over a decade.
