The Best Cafes in Fremantle for Coffee & Catch-Ups

You name the time and we’ll pick the place from this stellar array of the best cafes in Fremantle.

Bib & Tucker

Synonymous with alfresco dining and the Cappuccino Strip, Fremantle has no shortage of cafés. In fact, there are so many that we’re buzzing with caffeine to bring you this selection of the best cafes in Fremantle, if not Perth.

The coffee culture in Fremantle is as ingrained as its maritime past, rich in flavour and origin. Once you’re well and truly caffeinated, explore the windy streets or satiate those real estate yearnings with a deep dive into this fascinating port town.

Mr Chapple

Mr Chapple

Serving up brekky, lunch and dinner, the Old Synagogue’s corner spot is a local favourite. The breakfast menu is insanely good (hello, soft shell crab croissant), the rooftop terrace has views down Freo’s famous Cappuccino Strip and the laid back vibe is perfect for a coffee and bite to eat at any time of day. If you’re feeling fancy, there are a couple of delicious breakfast cocktails on the menu, too.

92 South Terrace, Fremantle

Little Loaf Brunch Bar

Little Loaf Brunch Bar

The North Street Store needs no introduction, having taken Perth’s fresh bread and baked goods scene by absolute storm since its opening in 2017. The Little Loaf Brunch Bar is cut from the same cloth, so you know you’re in for a treat. Limited to takeaways for years, these guys have recently expanded, so now there’s plenty of room to tuck into their epic sandwiches, dine-in brunch options, baked goods and of course, excellent coffee.

Part breezy beachside cafe, part art gallery, all in beautiful Leighton Beach, Palette Fremantle is a welcome new addition to the Fremantle food scene.

They offer glorious all-day Mediterranean dining, a fully licensed bar and a rotating art gallery with a focus on local and emerging artists. Come for the beautiful local art and fresh, vibrant menu (hello, peaches and cream crostini) and stay for the breathtaking sunset over Leighton Beach. It's one of the best Fremantle cafes for your next friendly catch-up.

1 Freeman Loop, North Fremantle

Good Things

Good Things

This Fremantle cafe is all Good Things! This light-filled, friendly spot is one of our all time favourites, for the fluffiest, diner-style and seasonal buttermilk hotcakes, the creamiest coffee and some of the best eggs in town. The poached eggs with hollandaise, pickled zucchini and thick cut sourdough are undeniable, as are the Korean sambal-scramble. Add a side of fried chicken to anything and you really can't go wrong here.

16 Bannister Street, Fremantle

May Street Larder

May Street Larder

It's been a go-to for many locals and visitors alike since it joined the Fremantle cafe scene awhile ago now. The menu at May Street Larder is what draws hungry folk in, with its focus on fresh, seasonal produce to highlight the best of WA. Cosy and bright inside, settle in for a delicious menu of dishes so varied that every brunch-goer will come away with a satisfied smile. Think breakfast burritos and apple crumble French toast, crispy corn fritters with avocado and poached eggs, poke bowls, and the ever popular Soul Sandwich - a polenta waffle with buttermilk fried chicken, avocado, smoked sour cream, chilli maple syrup and jalapeños. Hungry? Be sure to make it double. Then take it an extra step and add a little booze to your brunch, with a charred Negroni or elderflower spritz.

Sitchu Tip: Their high-tea is also one of the best in the game.

Unit 23/155 Canning Highway, East Fremantle

Best Wishes

Best Wishes

Best Wishes is a popular coffee and bagel joint that knows how to shift the morning blues into something far more appealing. That's right - hearts and bellies will leave this Fremantle cafe full. We can't go past the classic salmon and cream cheese on rye, with dill, tomato, lemon and olive oil.

The pastries, cakes and biscuits on offer are also an absolute sweet essential, with their banana bread world (well Fremantle) famous.

Wesley Central, shop 9/2 Cantonment Street, Fremantle

Peggy's

Peggy's

Retro vibes and stellar sandwiches collide at Peggy's, one of Fremantle's best cafes and a go-to for this absolute comfort food. We're completely smitten. albeit every visit has proven an absolute battle in trying to choose between their version of Macca's McMuffin, the classic (and straight-fire) egg mayo, a delicious sesame sub chicken schnitty, or the vibrant continental sando. Filter coffee and juices are also on hand to start your day off just right.

35 Market Street, Fremantle

Gino’s

Gino’s

Like many Italian immigrants who arrived in Fremantle in the 1950s, Gino Saccone couldn’t find a decent coffee. He thankfully solved this predicament by opening his own café. Decades later, this third-generation cafe produces and serves its custom blend to its loyal following, who have voted it the best coffee in Perth. It’s a big claim, undoubtedly enhanced by its prime location on the Cappuccino Strip and likened to a café you might find in an Italian village. Traditional favourites carry diners through the day and night with omelettes, paninis, scaloppine, handmade lasagna and misto mare. Positioned for people watching every day of the week, order that second espresso, make it a double, and settle in for a taste of la dolce vita.

Café 1-5 South Terrace, Fremantle

Cool Room Cafe

The Cool Room Cafe

This slightly grungy meets cute cafe, all Fornica-topped tables and retro knick-knacks, is where you can find beautifully arranged, inventive all-day breakfast dishes. All food is super fresh and cooked with love at The Cool Room Cafe, with the Turkish eggs, haloumi bruschetta and French toast just some of the many highlights. A real gem on Fremantle's cafe scene, made better by excellent coffee and real brewed chai.

Hush Specialty Coffee

Hush Specialty Coffee

There is very little hushing and shushing at Hush Specialty Coffee as the secret’s out about their single origin and house blend coffee. Sourced directly from the farmers and roasted by Five Senses, the menu is equally alluring with a show-stopping pandan-coconut panna cotta granola, truffle mushrooms and beef brisket benny. In true Freo fashion, the exposed brick, high ceilings and creaky floorboards add to the boho vibe and eclectic crowd.

68 High Street, Fremantle

Duck Duck Bruce

Duck Duck Bruce

With a name like Duck Duck Bruce (a backstory for another time), you need a cracking menu to match the brand. Quirky and supremely tasty, it showcases offerings such as Beauty and the Beet, Orange is the New (pancake) Stack and build-your-own I Did It My Way breakfast. Serving Five Senses coffee, tea and chai, after breakfast you might be inspired to stroll over to their sister restaurant Lions and Tigers on Bannister Street for adventurous Indian fare like the goan snapper curry or masala rubbed octopus.

18 Collie Street, Fremantle

Bib & Tucker

Bib & Tucker

All-day diner Bib & Tucker is serving up all things fine in a low-key, playful space that enjoys uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. The kitchen is pumping out excellent breakfast dishes to match the view - with the likes of sweetcorn fritters, burrata and mushroom toast, buttermilk banana pancakes and lobster benedict. We recommend sipping on their breakfast martini or a cold-pressed juice... and coffee, of course! The lunch menu also hits the ball out of the park, all unpretentious Modern-Australian fare that uses some of the best produce WA has to offer, and a wine menu of local favourites.

18 Leighton Beach Boulevard, North Fremantle

Bread in Common

Bread in Common

Within a converted warehouse clad in floor-to-ceiling bottles of wine, exposed brickwork and well-worn floorboards, the hand-built wood-fired ovens of Bread in Common emulate the warmth of Fremantle. The communal dining room with long tables only adds to the sense of community. For breakfast, there’s Common Bakery wood-fired bread, of course, along with all the carb-loaded morning classics. Break bread in style here, everytime.

Moore & Moore Café

Moore & Moore Café

Set within a former merchant’s warehouse built by WD Moore in the 1800s and appropriately named the Moores building, you’ll be treated to sustainably grown local produce at the Moore & Moore Café. This character-filled enclave is a local haunt for the nearby University of Notre Dame students and creatives visiting the adjacent Contemporary Art Gallery looking to escape the heat in the shady courtyard, or retreat inside against the rustic backdrop of leather couches and inspiring artworks. On the menu? A Moroccan High Tea, served alongside an organic menu featuring an all-day brunch and lunch. Our picks include the wild blueberry hotcakes, chilli eggs with haloumi, Turkish toast and a nourishing buddha bowl.

Little Lefroy’s

Pulled BBQ jackfruit wraps, banh mi pork rolls and French brioche toast with buttermilk crispy fried chicken are just some of the tasty selections on the daily all-day brunch menu at Little Lefroy’s. Catering well to all crowds, there are several gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian options as well as a selection of cold-pressed juices, wines and cocktails. Situated in a converted garage on South Terrace, and as the name suggests, Roasting Warehouse have their own single-origin and unique in-house small-batch blends, that have earned them national recognition for their coffee.
