Sydney’s Most Aesthetic Stores for Chic Shopping
Online shopping has its place, but nothing compares to stepping inside a store that's been designed within an inch of its life. These are Sydney's most beautiful retail spaces, where the fit-out is as considered as the edit, and browsing feels like an experience in itself.
Sydney’s best boutiques have always understood that the shopping experience is as important as what’s on the rack. With online shopping easier than ever, it’s hard to find the motivation to leave the house and take the time to actually peruse the racks. That being said, a gorgeous store with a curated aesthetic feels like a strong motivator to step foot inside the brand’s world.
Read on for our picks of the most beautiful, considered retail spaces in Sydney right now.
Love, Isabelle
Love Isabelle’s Manly flagship was designed around a single brief: imagine a favourite neighbourhood bar but instead of wine, you’re served diamonds. Designed in collaboration with Sydney-based interior studio Coffey Hallett, the space is truly stunning, with retro Italian lighting and rich two-tone walnut and burl joinery setting a real lounge-like tone that still feels very luze. At the centre sits a jewellery bar where customers pull up Dedar-clad reupholstered stools and are served pieces on demand, with a fridge stocked with custom Love Isabelle sparkling water. Better yet, there’s even a courtyard space for events which turns the whole thing into a real destination in its own right, extending far beyond the ‘typical’ retail space.

Beare Park
Beare Park’s flagship on Williams Street in Paddington has the same sharp, minimalist approach as the clothes inside it. Inspired by the relaxed apartment-like feeling of boutiques in New York and Paris, the store’s original stone flooring is contrasted with with white-washed walls and black clothing rails handmade by a local blacksmith. There’s also vintage French furniture sourced through The Vault which gives the space an effortless, lived-in quality. The change rooms are a whole moment in themselves, featuring draped silk dupion curtains, made from the same Melbourne supplier the brand uses for its clothes. On a strip with serious fashion heritage, this one earns its place.

SIR
Stepping into SIR inside the QVB means shopping against one of Sydney’s most spectacular architectural backdrops, and the store is a worthy addition. The boutique was designed by George Livissianis, who is known for his restrained, minimalist aesthetic across some of Australia’s most considered retail spaces. Using plenty of raw, tactile materials like natural timber, textured plaster and polished concrete, they play really nicely with the QVB’s ornate Romanesque arches and domed ceiling. The result is a space where the clothes and the design let the heritage do the heavy lifting without competing with it.

VRG GRL
VRG GRL’s Bondi store on Gould Street has been designed by Melbourne’s Studio Doherty, and their artistic eye really shines through in the design details. It’s a little industrial, with stainless steel railings and structural furniture, but there’s softer elements like plush green carpeting and Murano glass. Better still, the lighting scheme makes everything in the room look good, including you, which is exactly the energy you need when shopping in-person. This feels like the kind of store where you could visit on numerous occasions and discover another new gem each time.
