Fred's
This Paddington stalwart is the definition of quiet luxury. Offering deceptively luxe homestyle dishes prepared and plated to perfection, Fred's simple yet elevated approach results in some of the finest meals you can eat in Sydney. The interiors deliver on the cosy-country-homestead aesthetic whilst the integrated marble-topped counters where the chefs prepare your food have you feeling as though private chefs are cooking just for you. You can expect to be treated to all kinds of delightful seasonal goods from freshly baked cakes that need to be ordered before your drinks, to house-baked bread and grass-fed rib eye.
380 Oxford Street, Sydney
Besuto Omakase
Nothing screams quiet luxury quite like an omakase sitting. Down an alley and some stairs and then through to a private dining room, Besuto Omakase isn't showy in the slightest but it is luxe. Exquisite bite-sized morsels will be served to you by the chef as you indulge in an exclusive 15 course menu with a maximum of only seven other diners. Pair with sake or whiskey to up the ante or sample some of the rare spirits available by the glass.
3 Underwood Street, Sydney
Mimi's
The view at Mimi's is a priceless luxury set off by minimalist interiors and a Mediterranean menu. The dishes are simple yet utilise incredible produce meaning prices are higher than your average lunch spot (but worth it for the quality). Think caviar pie, Kinross Spring lamb and heritage wagyu ribeye. The 600-bottle wine list will keep you watered for the duration of your visit.
Coogee Pavillion, Coogee
Brasserie 1930
Located within the ultra-luxe Capella, Brasserie 1930 is another Bentley Group venue. You can expect a menu of elevated bistro classics from this two-hatted restaurant. Being a Bentley venue, you've got access to an extensive wine list that features over 400 international producers. The cool Parisian interiors hit the spot almost as satisfyingly as the food.
24 Loftus Street, Sydney
Margaret
Neil Perry's Margaret's zip code is an indication that luxury is afoot. But you won't find a stuffy dining room or style-over-substance dishes here. Margaret's excellence lies in the details and dishes that are each a labour of love. Every element of every dish is considered with plenty made in-house or sourced locally. Think hand-rolled grissini, house-made togarashi, hand-picked blue swimmer crab and freshly pressed coconut milk. The menu provides plenty of upmarket upgrades should you like to dine on the finest. We're talking wagyu scotch fillet, Eastern rock lobster, and sturgeon caviar.
30-36 Bay Street, Double Bay
Sixpenny
With three hats to their name and a dedicated fan base, you'll find Sixpenny in every Sydney best restaurant list there is yet they still manage to maintain a low-key, unpretentious air. The dining room is understated and the only option on the menu, the seven-course seasonal degustation ($250), utilises local growers and small-scale farms to craft top-tier dishes. Decadent yet subdued, Sixpenny is quiet luxury at its finest.
83 Percival Road, Sydney
Rockpool
The imposing marble columns and art deco interiors of the City Mutual building forms the backdrop to your Rockpool meal. Despite being one of the most (the?!) beautiful dining rooms in Sydney, the classic design creates a low-key luxe aesthetic. Same goes for the food with Rockpool taking out the award for the 8th-best steakhouse in the world.
66 Hunter Street, Sydney
Bennelong
Bennelong's two hats and prime position under one of the iconic Sydney Opera House sails may not necessarily be quiet but the timeless and classic decor and the all-round impeccable vibes are classy rather than glitzy. You'll find endless attention to detail in both the furnishings and elegantly plated dishes. Aged meats, wild caught fish and specialty cuts are luxe without being loud.
Sydney Opera House, Bennelong Point
