Emperor’s Garden Cakes & Bakery

Lily! You were recently named on the Global TikTok Discover List as one of the most influential foodies on TikTok! How did you get started on your foodie adventure? My love for food started with eating my grandma’s cooking growing up and seeing how it brought everyone together. During the pandemic, I began sharing my favourite food spots in Sydney, which grew into discovering the best food around the world and inspiring others to try new dishes and cuisines.

Let’s jump straight to it. What is the most underrated restaurant in Sydney in your opinion?
Stoneage BBQ in West Ryde – it’s a great restaurant for a casual and tasty meal.

Marrickville Pork Roll

What are your favourite budget bites in Sydney?
Marrickville Pork Roll, kimbap from Irea in Lidcombe, and emperor puffs in Chinatown!

If you were to choose one suburb for a food crawl, which would it be?
Burwood is the perfect spot for a food crawl – it has a great variety of restaurants and street food, especially in Burwood Chinatown!

Now for sweets, what’s your favourite dessert in Sydney?

I’m obsessed with Yo-Chi at the moment.

What Aussie destination is on your foodie bucket list?

I’d love to dive deeper into Melbourne’s food scene and explore more of the local cafes, food markets, and unique restaurants.

Burwood Chinatown

Do you have any thoughts on what the next food trends are going to be?

I think we’ll see more immersive dining experiences that engage more senses with bold visuals, sounds, and smells.

If you had to eat one cuisine forever, what would it be?

Probably Korean cuisine – I love all the side dishes like kimchi, street food, grilled meats, and comforting soups!

Can you leave us with one of Sydney’s biggest foodie secrets?

Sydney’s food scene is incredibly diverse and multicultural, and the secret is to venture beyond the city centre and explore the suburbs. For example, Cabramatta offers some of the best Vietnamese food, and Harris Park is the place to be for authentic Indian cuisine.
