Hop into these bakeries to get a taste of the best hot cross buns in Sydney.
Whether you’re a spiced and fluffy traditionalist when it comes to hot cross buns or are into more modern variations, come Easter Sunday you’ll want your kitchen to be well-stocked with these delicious baked bundles of goodness. Hot, buttery, rich and flavourful, the only bad thing about these seasonal treats is that you can only buy them once a year. To make this Easter the best ever, check out our edit of the very best hot cross buns that Sydney has to offer.
Martha’s
This iconic Mediterranean-inspired bakery is doing Easter a little differently this year. Beginning March 11, Martha’s will roll out a different hot cross bun flavour every Tuesday, with all three available over the long weekend. We can’t wait to try the chocolate bun filled with dulce de leche crème mousseline… for obvious reasons.

Brooklyn Boy Bagels
You can always count on Brooklyn Boy Bagels to deliver something unique, and this time is no different. From March 13, expect a range of takes on the humble hot cross bun in-store, from a red velvet flavour to a bagel–hot cross bun hybrid. We’re already eyeing the red velvet topped with hazelnut spread.

Pantry Story
Trust Pantry Story to pull it out of the bag and bring something totally unique to the Easter table. The bakery has just unveiled their latest creation; the hot cross sofa croissant. As the name implies, the pastry has a unique sofa-esque shape and is filled with chocolate brownie, hazelnut ganache and chocolate ganache inside. The creation is inspired by the slowness of the Easter break, taking it as a time to truly pause and unwind. We can definitely get behind that message.

Norma’s
If you are hosting Easter this year, look no further than Norma’s Deli. The team has crafted a hot cross bun wheel that is a must-have centrepiece for your Easter feasts. With 30 mini buns to tear and share, they are the perfect treat to graze on with friends and family over the long weekend.

Messy Spoon
There’s no need for our vegan, gluten-free and refined sugar-free friends to miss out on the seasonal goodies this year. Messy Spoon has done us all a solid and created the most nourishing hot cross bun we’ve ever had the pleasure of biting into. Handcrafted in small batches, we recommend popping in-store bright and early if you want to get your hands on some. Whilst you’re there, be sure to stock up on their gut-loving loaves, snacks and sweets for the week if you’re keen on a happy tummy.

Tuga
While they may be renowned for their beautifully buttery Pastel de Natas, Tuga takes Easter very seriously as well. This year they’ve gone all out, with an array of sweet treats that have us licking our lips. There’s the hot cross babka buns which are deliciously decadent, a traditional selection packed with fruit and spices, and most excitingly, the return of their Nutella babka which practically oozes with nutty, chocolatey goodness. We’ll take five.
Clovelly and Alexandria
Humble Bakery
Keeping things classic, Humble’s hot crossies are packed with traditional spices and fruits and available to purchase either in six or nine packs.
Available online now and individually in-store at Surry Hills, Kent Street and Circular Quay from March 9th.
Loulou
Loulou is really sharing the love this Easter season with the release of their Hot Heart Buns! Super cute and tasty, these little goodies are available in a traditional flavour, a decadent chocolate flavour or even a chocolate hazelnut custard. We’ll take one of each.

Fabbrica Bread Shop
Ani Bhosekar, the mastermind behind Fabbrica Bread Shop, has created a chai-spiced hot cross bun you’ll want to devour this Easter season. With hints of ginger and cardamom, they are the perfect autumnal treat. They’re available at both bakeries and for pre-order for Easter weekend. Each six-pack comes with a roll of chai-spiced butter, perfect for slathering in abundance.
Rozelle & Coogee
Infinity Bakery
Arguably serving up one of the best hot cross buns in Sydney, there is so much to love about this light-filled bakery-slash-café. The perfect balance of soft and crisp, these hot cross buns are very dense – think chunky and fruit-filled – so be sure to come hungry. This year, they’ve also come out with a loaded chocolate version with B=bursts of chocolate in every bite. Built for those who prefer their hotties without fruit!
Homebush, Lindfield, Redfern, Broadway & Randwick
Sonoma
Stepping somewhat out of line, Sonoma’s ‘Not Cross Buns’ are branded with an ‘S’ rather than the typical cross – it’s ok, the taste justifies this misdemeanour. Packed with fruit including spiced raisins, currants, cranberries, apricots and candied orange, the Sonoma buns are utterly addictive. As you’d expect from some of Sydney’s finest HCBs these buns will fly off the shelves so make sure you get in early!

Bourke Street Bakery
Bourke Street Bakery is known for churning out some of the best buns in town, and they’re available to order online so you don’t need to worry about the manic rush. They’ve got traditional which come in a pack of 6 or 15 (if you’ve got a lot of sweet toothed friends) and a chocolate and cranberry cross which sounds delicious. This year, they’ve also teamed up with Red Mill Rum to create a limited-edition Spiced Rum Butter. Rich, warming and indulgent, it’s perfect on buns, pastries, toast, or straight off the spoon.

Baker Bleu
Baker Bleu is back for 2026 with its cult-favourite Traditional buns — spiced with cinnamon and ginger, studded with Australian raisins and fresh orange — alongside a Sour Cherry & Dark Chocolate version folded with 64% couverture and warming spice.
This year, the flavours go beyond the bun: think an Iced Hot Cross Bun Latte, Cherry Chocolate drinks and even a Hot Cross Bun Soft Serve (yes, really). Consider your Easter cravings officially handled.
