An Old Butter Factory Turned Destination Diner: Inside Mrs Jones’ Stunning Makeover

Located in an old butter factory, right in the heart of a quaint town on WA’s south west coast, Mrs Jones has stood as a Denmark staple for years. Its hearty brunches, quality coffee and warm, heartfelt service have kept locals and tourists coming back time and time again.

For the last 18 months, though, the doors have been closed—freeing up space for co-owners Justine Jackson (Front of House) and Sam Jackson (Head Chef) to give the historic building and its tight little kitchen a much-needed revamp.

“Whilst it was (and still is) full of character, there were lots of quirks that needed to be addressed,” said Justine. “Our team did such a great job in the small work space they had… we were literally bursting at the seams.”

The renovation process, as Justine tells us, was not as smooth as they hoped, but ultimately rewarding in the end.

“The 18-month-long renovations have been arduous, but the builders have done a great job. We hope this renovation will be worth all the wait for not just years, but for decades to come, for our little coastal town of Denmark.”

From the looks of it, that shouldn’t be too difficult.

With natural light, leafy interiors and expert styling, the refreshed diner is as pretty as it is charming.

Inside, a new timber bar sits beneath well-stocked wine displays and exposed timber beams frame the airy dining hall for maximum wow factor. The neutral colour palette brings a sense of calm, enhanced by the verdant views that call from the new treelined rear balcony.

But Mrs Jones’ glow-up doesn’t stop at its interiors.

There’s now a more extensive lunch menu on offer, accompanied by a solid local wine list and all-new tap beers.

While the breakfast menu welcomes back old favourites, including the wildly popular breakfast gnocchi.

As always, quality “from scratch” cooking is paramount across new and old bites with Sam back in the kitchen as Head Chef.

Mrs Jones is now open for usual cafe trading from 7am til 3pm every day except Wednesday, but Justine says nights on the balcony are very much on the cards.

“Pop-up nights with wineries, ticketed long table dinners and so on. Having a drink on our new balcony on a balmy summer’s evening will be such a unique experience in the centre of town.”

For now, though, you’ll have to follow Mrs Jones for the latest.
