Between ancient forests and a sparkling stretch of WA’s south coast, Denmark is a small town with big vibe.

Giant karri trees tower overhead, sparkling waters lap at jaw-droppingly huge granite boulders, and cool-climate wineries dot the rolling hills.

Laid-back yet adventurous, Denmark mornings begin with swims at Greens Pool, afternoons roll into long winery lunches, and evenings wind down by the fire with a glass of local vino.

Stillwood Retreat

A quiet sanctuary for two among the karri trees, Stillwood is an architecturally designed escape that invites stillness. Set high on a hillside just beyond the town of Denmark and tucked into five acres of private land, it offers gentle views over rolling hills and dams, all framed by towering karri forest.

This adults-only studio feels like a deep exhale. Inside, earthy textures and thoughtful details create an atmosphere of ease — timber-lined ceilings soar above an open living space, warmed by a fireplace and softened with linen and natural light. Upstairs, a spiral staircase leads to a king-sized bed draped in soft layers of European linen, where mornings arrive slowly and views stretch into the trees.

If the mood strikes for a hike, Denmark’s trails deliver. The Bibbulmun Track, one of Australia’s longest walking trails, passes through Denmark, offering everything from short strolls to multi-day treks. The Monkey Rock hike is a short up-hill walk that rewards with the most breathtaking, sweeping ocean views (be sure to climb to the top of Monkey Rock for the best views), while Mount Lindesay National Park is a wildflower hotspot in spring. Mrs Jones

This beloved local cafe is a brunch lovers dream, so the fact Mrs Jones has been closed for renovations the last 18 months has felt like a bit of a nightmare. Thankfully, we’ve been assured that the revamped Denmark gem will be back better than ever this October. Their iconic breakfast gnocchi will also be back, and that’s really all we need to know.

The Green Pantry
