Melbourne Restaurants That Totally Match Each White Lotus Character

From fine dining degustations worthy of the Ratliffs to moody haunts Rick would slink into, dine like you're a character in the White Lotus at these hotspots.

The exploits and misadventures of various guests and employees at a tropical resort over the course of one week.

We’re still at a loss for words after that explosive White Lotus season three finale (don’t worry, no spoilers here). While everyone else has been psychoanalysing each character and reading into the deeper meanings behind their actions, we’ve been thinking long and hard about a question of our own: where would the White Lotus characters dine in Melbourne? After eagerly sitting down every Monday to unravel the latest twists, we’ve gotten to know each character pretty well—and we’ve curated the top spots for where they’d dine in Melbourne, from Victoria Ratliff’s old-money tastes to Rick’s haunting aura.

Victoria and Timothy Ratliff — Grill Americano

Victoria Ratliff was destined for the finer things in life, and she makes it known: “I was not meant to live an uncomfortable life.” That’s why her and Timothy are heading straight to Grill Americano for their weekend dinner plans. Inspired by the illustrious Italian restaurants in New York, Grill Americano has just the right amount of American flare and old-money aesthetics to satisfy Victoria. She’ll order a martini and eye the other restaurant-goers, determining who has enough class to be sitting in the velvet blue chairs and who’s playing dress up for the evening. As for Timothy, he’ll be nervously eyeing the menu, secretly calculating how much he can splurge before his card inevitably declines. A bead of sweat forms on his forehead as he orders the Bistecca from the grill (it’ll pair perfectly with a side of Victoria’s Lorazepam), his fingers crossed under the table.

112 Flinders Lane, Melbourne

Saxon and Lochlan Ratliff — Gimlet at Cavendish House

Gimlet is steeped in old-world charisma, attracting a sophisticated crowd that Saxon would be desperate to impress and prove his worth to. He’d stroll in late on a Friday or Saturday night, order a cheeseburger and a martini, then attempt to chat up the woman sitting next to him at the bar—who, of course, is there with her boyfriend, but Saxon doesn’t mind. Lochlan would be standing two steps behind, awkwardly clutching his beer, mirroring his brother’s bold antics as he tried his luck with the woman’s best friend.

33 Russell Street, Melbourne

Piper Ratliff — Longrain

Piper would drag her family along to Longrain, craving the vibrant energy and contemporary flair of the space. With its sleek, industrial design and bold, Asian-inspired menu, it’s the perfect setting for her to feel important while pretending to enjoy the food. She’d sit at a long table, ordering an array of dishes to share, but ultimately selecting the most Instagrammable ones, making sure everyone knows just how cultured and worldly she is.

44 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne

Chelsea — The Espy

Our beloved Chelsea gives off major British backpacker energy, so it’s no surprise she’ll be dining at the Main Bar at The Espy. The relaxed beachside location is exactly what she needs after spending the entire day worrying about Rick’s antics. She’ll sit at one of the front tables with a pint in hand and a bowl of chips to pick at, chatting with anyone who’ll listen about her latest travel tales, all while sizing up the area for any potential danger—worried because, after all, bad things come in threes.

11 The Esplanade, St Kilda

Rick — Eau de Vie

A moody bar to match a moody man. Rick would definitely slip into Eau de Vie after running away yet again from the woman who adores him, offering up yet another lousy excuse. Slouching into a chair at a table for one with a scowl on his face, he’d secretly contain the slightest twinge of excitement at the sight of the eye-popping whisky room hidden behind a bookcase. Catch him sipping his select whisky neat until the wee hours of the morning.

1 Malthouse Lane, Melbourne

Chloe — Maison Batard

Chloe always likes to be at the forefront of trends and in the heart of the action, which is why she’d drag Greg straight to Maison Batard on a Friday for an illustrious long lunch that rolls into dinner and a show at Le Club. This four-storey marvel blends Parisian glamour with modern dining—and Chloe wants it all. On the ground and first floors, Restaurant Batard dazzles with its oyster bar, rotisserie delights, and reimagined French classics. Ascend to Le Terrace, the rooftop retreat buzzing with atrium views and DJ sets.

23 Bourke Street, Melbourne

Jaclyn, Kate and Laurie — Fable

Fable’s refined yet relaxed vibes, topped off with its pumping music and spectacular views, make it the perfect spot for Jaclyn, Kate, and Laurie. The intimate atmosphere suits their sophisticated yet playful dynamic, where they can enjoy high-end cocktails while exchanging gossip and competing to make the most sarcastic (borderline toxic) comment. Jaclyn will be eyeing everyone down, Laurie will be downing drinks and letting loose, and Kate will silently critique the whole situation, taking notes to bring up in private, late-night discussions.

13/168 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne

Gaitok — Soi 38

Whether he’s been rejected by his crush, lost his gun, or didn’t get the promotion he wanted, Gaitok has most likely had a bad day and is in dire need of some comfort food. Soi 38 brings the tastes of home right to his lap with its no-frills, flavourful Thai street food. Boat noodles, pad krapow with dry-aged beef, Chang-fuelled Thai barbecue, and hotpot are just a few of the dishes he’d gravitate toward, embracing the simplicity and satisfaction of bold, comforting flavours. It’s the kind of place where he can sink into the atmosphere, forget his troubles for a while, and indulge in food that makes everything seem a little bit better.
