The Best Cafes in Port Melbourne for a Coffee Catch-up

Cosy up with coffee and brunch at the best cafes in Port Melbourne.

Station Street Trading Co.

There’s a particular pleasure to a Port Melbourne morning. The salt air is never far away, Bay Street starts early, and the cafe scene moves between neighbourhood ritual and weekend appetite with ease. You can do a quick takeaway coffee before the tram, settle in for hotcakes after a beach walk, chase a focaccia worth crossing town for, or follow the scent of cinnamon scrolls to a corner bakery with dangerous persuasive powers.

These are the Port Melbourne cafes we keep coming back to, from serious coffee stops and brunch favourites to bakeries, banh mi counters and sweet little detours.

Peaches by CourtSide Diner

Peaches by CourtSide Diner has brought a fresh shot of brunch energy to Port Melbourne. Set inside CourtSide Melbourne, it turns a basketball hub into a peachy little pit stop for pancake stacks, loaded crumpets, peach cobbler granola, fried chicken burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, shakes and cold brew. Come after a shootaround, before errands, or whenever eggs-on-toast needs a time-out. It is sporty, silly and satisfyingly snack-minded in the best way.

Baba’s Deli

Baba’s Deli knows its way around a very delicious sandwich. This Bay Street favourite keeps Port Melbourne fuelled with focaccia, pizza by the slice, pastries and coffee, but the real pull is Mama’s Vodka: crumbed chicken, vodka sauce, parmesan, lemon, rocket and stracciatella in focaccia form. There’s a crumbed eggplant version too, plus Tayta’s Falafel with pickled turnip, cucumber, mint and tahini, and Brother’s Prosciutto with stracciatella, lemon-parmesan rocket and house-made mushroom truffle spread. Lunch, sorted.

Luke’s Banh Mi

Luke’s Banh Mi

Bay Street’s lunch game got a serious lift when Luke’s Bánh Mì arrived in Port Melbourne. The bread is baked fresh daily, the pâté and egg mayo are made in-house, and the fillings run from crackling pork and charcoal BBQ chicken to vegan duck, tofu and crispy mushroom. Fast, crunchy, saucy and built for eating on the move, it’s the roll call worth crossing the street for.

George’s Table

George’s Table brings a little French romance to Bay Street, without losing its Port Melbourne neighbourliness. Opened in 2025 by Michelle and Thom, the cafe and wine bar is named for their grandfathers, one Palestinian, one French, with Thom’s Paris pastry training showing in the cabinet. Mornings mean flat whites, croissants, breakfast plates and sourdough sandwiches; by late afternoon, wine is poured, small plates appear, and the whole room slips into apéro mode.

Vertue Coffee Roasters

With its royal-blue frontage and serious coffee credentials, Vertue Coffee Roasters brings sharp curb appeal to Port Melbourne’s morning run. The beans are the main event here, with a tidy rotation of house blends and single origins poured for locals who know exactly how they like their cup. Food keeps pace without overcomplicating things: cabinet bites, pastries and easy takeaway options made for commuters, beach-bound walkers and anyone chasing a reliable brew before the day gets going.

Coe & Coe

Coe & Coe

Coe & Coe has brought its panini-and-coffee formula to Port Melbourne, and it knows exactly what the morning crowd wants. Start with the egg and bacon panini, layered with sweet hickory BBQ sauce, or swing by later for the Burger Life, stacked with chicken, cheese, avocado and jalapeño aioli. Add a juice, smoothie or something sweet from the counter, and it becomes an easy Bay Street stop for breakfast, lunch or a between-errands refuel.

Hurricane Handsome

Hurricane Handsome

Hurricane Handsome brings a globe-trotting streak to Port Melbourne’s brunch scene. This Bay Street corner cafe moves well beyond the usual eggs-on-toast brief, with smashed pumpkin and grilled halloumi, sweet corn and zucchini fritters with avocado and feta, Spanish-style scrambled eggs, turmeric porridge with berries and granola, and pulled salmon tacos. Grab a table in the outdoor parklet when the sun is out and let breakfast turn into an unhurried Bay Street pit stop.

Grey and Bliss
Grey & Bliss

Grey & Bliss

Grey and Bliss is a Port Melbourne local with a little more character than your standard morning stop. The room has stained glass windows, a mirror wall and hanging lights made from vintage finds, while the menu moves between lighter cafe staples and proper brunch comfort. Come for cauliflower and potato croquettes, eggs Benedict, or the ricotta and blueberry buttermilk hotcakes, finished with maple-glazed banana, whipped mascarpone and crisp kataifi.

Heart Bakes

Follow the scent of cinnamon to Heart Bakes, the Bridge Street corner spot with one of Port Melbourne’s most dangerous pastry cabinets. The cinnamon scrolls are the headline act, all soft, sticky spirals and generous icing (our favourite in Melbourne, actually), but there’s plenty more to derail a sensible coffee run: fudge choc cookies, carrot cake, flourless chocolate cake, Basque cheesecake and weekend Heart Lamingtons.

Stay for a breakfast burger or sandwich, or leave with a scroll in hand and no regrets.

Station Street Trading Co.

Station Street Trading Co. is the neighbourhood cafe Port Melbourne locals keep in steady rotation. Set just off the Bay Street rush at 166 Station Street, it’s built for breakfast, brunch and lunch, with classic plates, good coffee, smoothies and fresh juices doing the heavy lifting. Grab a table outside when the weather plays nice, or swing by for an easy takeaway before the day gets moving.

Rock Paper Scissors

Rock Paper Scissors

Rock Paper Scissors has the craftsmanship in its bones. After 15 years building cafes and restaurants for other people, former carpenter Zack opened his own Rouse Street spot, bringing timber accents, Toby’s Estate coffee and an all-day breakfast menu with plenty of range: buttermilk pancakes, smashed avo, Magic Mushrooms on toast, beef brisket eggs Benedict or a grilled RPS toastie. Then add a smoothie, fresh juice or milkshake for the full Port Melbourne cafe ritual.
