When it comes to GF goods, these are the best gluten-free cafes in town.
Perth’s vibrant and ever-evolving culinary scene offers something for every palate and dietary need — from gluten-free and dairy-free to vegan, vegetarian and paleo — without every compromising on quality.
Yet, sometimes, discovering those truly exceptional, dedicated gluten-free spots can be a challenge. That’s where we come in.
We’ve pulled together a curated selection of Perth’s best gluten-free cafes and bakeries, so you never have to stress about where to eat sans wheat.
Champagne & Gumboots
Located in the Swan Valley, Champagne & Gumboots is a 100% gluten-free, Coeliac Australia-accredited cake boutique. This is the spot to go for gluten-free cupcakes and special occasion cakes (think: weddings, engagements, birthdays and more) in Perth, with a massive selection of flavours, sizes and styles to choose from. Champagne & Gumboots is also highly regarded in the high tea scene for its seasonal sweet and savoury gluten-free delights.
Strange Grains
Strange Grains have been serving allergy-friendly loaves and bakes for years and remain one of the best gluten-free bakeries in Perth. Located in the leafy suburb of Shenton Park, everything here is artisan made and free from wheat, gluten, soy, corn, eggs, dairy, gums, and fillers. The secret lies in the blend of exotic whole pseudo grains, weed seeds and roots which give Strange Grains loaves their signature crusty edge and soft centre. They often beat ‘regular’ wheaten breads in open awards because they’re that good. Whether your chasing a sourdough loaf for the week, a quick roll to go or a sweet treat, consider this your gluten-free holy grail.
197 Onslow Rd, Shenton Park
Be Free
Specialising in local, seasonal organic produce that’s fresh from the farm to your table, Be Free is all about nourishing food that tastes (and feels) as good as it looks. The menu is packed with wholesome, vibrant dishes, including some great gluten-free options — think rainbow acai bowls, miso mushroom waffles, and protein-packed nourish plates — alongside stellar coffee and fresh juices. With its light-filled, leafy space, eco-conscious ethos, and community vibe, Be Free is a refreshing addition to Perth’s cafe culture.
1 City Farm Place, East Perth
Smidge Bakery
Smidge Bakery is renowned for their god-tier cinny scrolls, and after months of recipe testing they’ve finally come out with a fully gluten-free and Coeliac-friendly version. Baker Jen told us a lot of their friends and family can’t eat gluten so they’ve been really focused on bringing more gluten-free options into the bakery. And they even have a whole separate gluten-free section in their kitchen (including oven!) to ensure these treats are as free from gluten as possible. Aside from the cinny scrolls, you’ll also find gluten-free choc chip cookies, choc caramel brownies, on-toast options and more.
