Make Brunch Plans at These Perth Cafes With Playgrounds

Keen to line-up your next playdate? These kid-friendly cafes have you covered.

Hobart Deli

Finding a brunch spot that ticks everyone’s boxes can be tricky, especially if you’ve got tots in tow.

Luckily, Perth is a very family-friendly city, so there are plenty of cafes with playgrounds or bustling play areas that parents swear by, combining great coffee and food with a side of fun. We’ve tried to prioritise places you’ll love just as much (okay, maybe more) as the little guys, rather than venues that purely exist to please kids. It’s always a bit of a balance!

If you’re meeting friends, grabbing brunch, or just want to get out of the house, take a well-earned scroll through our favourites and you might just discover your new go-to. From leafy outdoor spaces to fully equipped play areas, these kid-friendly cafes in Perth make dining out easy-breezy.

Hobart Deli

Tucked down a quiet suburban street in North Perth directly across from a fully enclosed playground, this kid-friendly coffee spot is a bit of a local hidden gem. The dine-in menu delivers hit after hit, from ricotta pancakes and acai bowls to sausage and egg muffins, fried chicken focaccias and avocado toast. The coffee is top-tier, with Five Senses espresso and single origin styles on offer. And the spacious outdoor sitting area makes pram life easy.

Choose to book ahead and dine in or just wander in and try your luck. If it’s too busy, you can always raid the well-stocked grab-and go cabinet and enjoy your treats picnic style at the park. La Paleta’s handmade, all-natural icy poles are on hand to sweeten the deal.

45 Hobart St, Perth

Laika

This Lathlain faithful has been serving the families of Perth for years. Not only does Laika have a spacious pram-friendly background complete with its own basketball half-court ideal for bigger kids, but they also pour some of Perth’s best coffee alongside exceptional brunch plates for all ages.

They’ve also been known to pull out some spectacular special menus, like the decadent Hong Kong French Toast line-up currently on offer. All the more reason to swing by often!

Folk & Merchant

Doubleview’s Folk & Merchant is always buzzing with mums and bubs, and we can see why. The cool Cali-inspired haven is perfect for health conscious mums, with arguably the best nourish bowl line-up in Perth, and kids eats you’ll genuinely feel good about giving them…Although I will say, the Smidge cinnamon scrolls are definitely hard to pass up.

The alfresco area also happens to be a beautiful spot to sit and yap while the kids scope out the tiki-inspired cubby and fun little mud kitchen, ideal for imaginative play. Inside, there’s a kids’ fashion boutique to check out too.

4/243 Herbert Street, Doubleview

Peninsular Farm Cafe

Honestly, it’s hard to top the riverside ambience at Maylands’ Peninsular Farm Cafe. The gorgeous produce-driven brunch destination is situated on the banks of the Swan River, overlooking the water, with plenty of lawn for the kids to sprawl out on and an adorable little timber play cafe too.

Peninsular Farm Cafe is incredibly popular on weekends, so if you haven’t booked ahead, we suggest bringing a picnic rug and some toys so you can sit back with a takeaway coffee while you wait for a table to open up. The takeaway toasties are also banging, and perfect for filling the kids up if they just can’t wait.

Runyeh

Runyeh Coffee

Perth’s North lucked out with the addition of Runyeh. The coffee haunt is now a community staple, with a serious coffee program and some of the best cafe food you’ll find in Perth. The fact there’s also a kid-friendly backyard complete with shade sails and play activities is truly just the cherry on top.

It’s also right next door to kids’ creative studio, It’s Made To Be Messy, if you’re chasing more things to do with the kids.

Blendcraft

Come summertime, we’re looking for any opportunity to slam down something chilled. Blendcraft delivers the goods with its Erewhon-style smoothies and wholesome grab-and-go bites. Located right across from a shady playground, the Bicton smoothie bar is a great spot to meet up with the little ones in tow. They even have a dedicated Little Blends menu just for kids! Although trust me, these smoothies are so good, they’ll soon be requesting a full-sized adult sip, especially after running mad at the playground.

Coffee Thief

Coffee Thief

Another suburban spot that locals have been keeping pretty quiet is Coffee Thief in West Leederville. While it’s not the kind of spot you’re going to sit down and dive into eggs on toast, these guys nail the essentials: good coffee, great bites (the housemade quiche is a must if it’s there) and a friendly no-fuss vibe. For parents in the area, the fact there’s an enclosed playground directly across the road makes the decision to go out for coffee that much easier.

We should also mention this is really close to the epic nature playground down at Lake Monger, so it’s a great pit stop on the way there.

Maison St Honore
Maison St Honore

Maison St Honore

Maison St Honore in the Swan Valley might serve fancy high teas, French pastries and crepes, but the casual dining and playground overlooking sprawling vineyards is what’s most enticing to parents.

Plus, their Petit Chef Classes inspire creativity, making it the perfect spot for children’s creativity. Famed for their macarons and cakes, you’ll find their take-home treats near impossible to resist. So, it’s great to know that they also have outlets in East Perth, Mount Pleasant, Ellenbrook and Floreat.

Zamia Cafe

Zamia Cafe

Set within the ultimate park, the appropriately named Kings Park that hovers vibrantly over Perth’s CBD, Zamia Cafe overlooks the May Drive Parkland, one of Perth’s most epic playgrounds and gardens. It’s easy to understand why Zamia Cafe is a year-round family favourite, with outdoor movies in the warmer months, takeaway platters in the park and hearty dine-in meals. It’s a botanic surrounded beauty and a kid-friendly cafe to settle into for relaxed fun.

The Blacksmith

The Blacksmith has kid-friendly coffee dates well and truly in hand, with an indoor play area, outdoor sandpit (BYO toys) and dedicated kids menu. For the adults, the flavourful Asian-inspired brunch dishes and seriously good bank mi will hit the spot. Let’s also not forget that Kuld Creamery serve out of here too!

Chu Bakery

Chu Bakery

Okay, hear us out. Yes, Chu Bakery often has a line down the block, which is not the kinda thing you wanna deal with when you’re dragging kids along, but if you pop your order in the day before, you can swing past, pick up your baked goods and coffee, and head straight over to Hyde Park, where a playground and water play area awaits. All the baked goodness and lush park play, minus the wait time.

Pack some extra snacks and sips for the little guys and they’ll be happy for hours. It’s the ultimate hack, and well worth the little extra planning.
