The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow

Australia’s #1 comedy tour is rolling into town! The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow is back for its 27th year, bringing the biggest laughs from the 2025 festival to Hobart. With a killer line-up of comedy favourites and rising stars — including Mike Goldstein, Daniel Connell, Kirsty Webeck, Robyn Reynolds (UK) and Suren Jayemanne — it’s one night of slaugh-out-lod fun you don’t want to miss.

In the end, the beginning — Arcangelo Sassolino at MONA

Industrial materials meet elemental force in this jaw-dropping MONA exhibition from Italian sculptor Arcangelo Sassolino. Think: steel melting mid-air, glass straining under rock, and tyres squeezed to breaking point. Using heat, gravity and immense pressure, Sassolino explores change as a moment of truth — a flash of destruction, renewal and transformation. It’s physical. It’s philosophical. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before.

Fast Love Tour

Call all George Michael fans — Fastlove is coming to Hobart for one night only! Direct from London’s West End, this dazzling tribute is touring Down Under, packed with all the adored singers’ biggest hits, from Wham! faves to Faith and Careless Whisper. With a full video and light show, epic vocals, and all the nostalgic feels, this is your chance to dance, sing, and relive the magic of a bygone era. While you’re at MONA, French artist and stage director Théo Mercier has transformed the museum’s former library into a haunting, otherworldly installation, crafted entirely from locally sourced sand. Created on-site with the help of expert sand sculptors, Mirrorscape presents a catastrophic landscape suspended in time: a scene that might follow a landslide, tsunami, or bomb blast.

Enclosed behind glass and flanked by aluminium panels, the work evokes a laboratory specimen, a fossil, or perhaps a prophecy. Inspired by Tasmania’s ever-shifting sandstone formations and local detritus, Mercier’s immersive diorama blurs the lines between past and future, art and aftermath — an eerie vision of what was, or what’s to come.

Winter In the Hanging Garden

Encompassing nearly an entire city block in the centre of Hobart, In The Hanging Garden is an extensive tiered beer garden and cultural precinct, with outdoor dining, bars, markets and live music, and they’re keeping things hot this winter. Wheel & Wine at Glazed and Confused

Say you’re looking to gain a new skill, seeking a creative outlet or trying to find a unique way to catch up with a friend, the team at Glazed and Confused has you covered with their Wheel and Wine class. Enjoy a glass of wine as you learn the basics of pottery making, where participants are welcome to throw as many pieces on the wheel as they wish, for two hours. Your two best pieces will be glazed, fired and ready for pickup a few weeks later!

Sitchu tip: Glazed and Confused hosts wheel throwing courses and multiple events throughout the year, so be sure to give them a follow if you’re ready to unleash your creative side.

Unleash your inner Masterchef with Piatti Invernali, where you’ll dive into the heart of traditional Italian cooking in a gorgeous kitchen plucked from a Nancy Meyers movie. These hands-on classes will have you mastering classic Italian dishes, from hearty pasta and pizza to flavourful risottos. This is your one-stop shop for fresh local produce in abundance. Local purveyors line the street, with stalls overflowing with fresh fruit and veg, artisanal baked goods, and small-batch spirits. A stroll through this long-running market is the perfect weekend activity in Hobart, and this month, it’s a very Merry market indeed. Salamanca Market has been around for over 50 years, and in that time it’s grown to include over 300 stallholders, encompassing local goods from records and woodwork stalls to Leatherwood honey and whisky producers that make great gifts this Christmas.

So central you can shuffle straight from one of Hobart’s many fabulous cafes into another excellent coffee and a Lady Hester sourdough donut.

Stay Warm at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed

Take a quick 25-minute drive to the Huon Valley and visit Willie Smith’s Apple Shed — the place where the beloved Willie Smith’s Cider is grown and made. Hobart’s dining scene is a whole lot tastier with the arrival of Ranita Ramen, a charming nine-seat ramen bar that’s causing a stir. Located on Liverpool Street, this intimate spot, led by the talented couple Zoe Erskine and Javier Garcia Tornel, serves up homemade noodles and velvety broths crafted with locally sourced ingredients.

Each bowl is a delicious reflection of the couple’s culinary journey—from Melbourne to Madrid, and a passion ignited in Japan. The seasonal menu features dishes like fish shio ramen: a delicate fish broth with chicken chashu, meatballs, ajitama egg, and emmer wheat noodles—light yet rich, complex yet comforting.
