Best Coffee in Sydney: Top Cafes for a Coffee Break
Sydney is a coffee lover's dream. Not sure where to start? Here's where to find the best coffee in Sydney.
The best coffee across Sydney spans award-winning roasters to laneway hideaways. Think Toby’s Estate in Chippendale, ranked among the World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops for 2026, Cabrito Coffee Traders tucked off Circular Quay for a silky house blend, or ASLAN Coffee Roasters in The Rocks for bold Indonesian-origin beans.
In a city of coffee snobs (guilty!), we have sky-high standards for our brews, and our baristas work their magic behind shiny espresso machines to meet them every single day. Whether you live nearby, commute in for work, or spend your weekends shopping up a storm, every Sydneysider needs a go-to coffee stop. Further out, Devon Cafe brings its own house blend to Barangaroo, while Mecca’s newest cave-like space sits beneath Darlinghurst’s Oxford Street, proof that great coffee stretches well beyond any one postcode. These are the stops Sitchu’s editors return to across the city, wherever the morning takes you.

Editor’s Pick:
Mecca Coffee
Sydney’s newest coffee hideaway is hiding beneath Oxford Street and it’s well worth seeking out. Mecca has opened its most ambitious cafe yet, to celebrate 20 years in the bean roasting game. Drawing inspiration from the underground dugouts of South Australia’s opal-mining town Coober Pedy, the cave-like space feels like a hidden desert hideaway beneath the city, with sandstone, convict-era bricks, colonial-era pottery, a moon-like dome light and a dramatic Pilbara red marble counter anchoring the room. Paired with seriously good coffee roasted at Mecca’s Alexandria roastery and pastries delivered fresh from Iggy’s, this has really heightened our caffeine cravings.
