Lake Clifton Thrombolites (Image Credit: Explore Parks WA)

Check out the thrombolites of Lake Clifton

Thousands of ancient thrombolites jutting out of Lake Clifton are over 3,000 years old - and are an unmissable free thing to do just outside of Perth! The most striking things about the thrombolites are their limestone colour and rounded shape. They are very fragile, so an observation walkway has been built for visitors to enjoy these incredible formations whilst protecting them from damage.

Believed to resemble the earliest forms of life on earth, Lake Clifton is one of the five sites in Western Australia featuring these intriguing rock formations just on the outskirts of Perth.
