Midtown Plaza, Bourke Street

MECCA Bourke Street Has Officially Opened — And It’s Melbourne’s Most Fabulous New Obsession

Forget retail. This is a beauty cathedral.

Melbourne has just levelled up. MECCA Bourke Street, the largest beauty flagship in the Southern Hemisphere, is now open — and it’s not so much a store as a sensory odyssey, stitched with ritual, radiance and gasp-worthy interiors. Housed in the lovingly restored Cole’s Book Arcade, this 4,000-square-metre wonderland unfolds across three design-drenched levels, with 300+ team members delivering over 80 luxurious services.

The journey begins on the ground floor, where bold florals and heritage terrazzo lead you into a world of skin and makeup. You’ll spot beauty icons and cult favourites — think Westman Atelier, Glossier, Charlotte Tilbury and Augustinus Bader — as well as the brand’s first-ever Apothecary. More inner temple than retail section, it’s a wellness sanctuary lined with adaptogens, herbal tinctures, medicinal teas and moon milk, offering appointments with naturopaths, ear seeding, facial mapping and energy work. It’s high-gloss meets high-vibe, with plenty of sleek shelving for your next supplement crush.

Level two dials things up. This is where glow dreams are made — with LED facials, personalised skin diagnostics, cryotherapy, and a dedicated glow zone for bespoke treatments. Hair and nails? Sorted. A Trophy Wife nail bar, celebrity-grade styling with Josh Wood Colour, and a full-service salon bring back-of-house magic to the beauty floor. Add to that a gifting atelier with hand-wrapping rituals, calligraphy and concierge-style service, and you’re in beauty heaven.

But then, you ascend. The top floor is a sensory dreamscape. The MECCA Perfumeria is a sculptural gallery of scent, where trained fragrance sommeliers swirl eau de parfums like rare wine. Niche names, cult classics and personalised curation come together in a mirrored oasis with scent cloud stations and fragrance flights. Just across the landing? MECCAVERSITY — an artfully designed auditorium where masterclasses, live talks, empowerment sessions and brand collabs unfold like clockwork. And, in a final decadent twist, there’s a chic cafe serving Lune croissants and French-leaning treats, best enjoyed with a glass of bubbles and a side of self-care.

Opens Friday August 8th at 9am; queuing begins at 7am
