The Edit: Erin Deering Talks Style, Trends & Launching Her Own Fashion Label

In this exclusive interview, we speak with entrepreneur Erin Deering about all things fashion, including her very exciting upcoming new label.

Co-founder of Triangl swimwear, entrepreneur, podcaster, author, mother of four and general purveyor of impeccable style, Erin Deering knows a thing or two about fashion.

We were lucky enough to sit down with the businesswoman to discuss her impressive career, her philosophy on personal style, her picks for the season ahead, and all of her favourite beauty products and Melbourne hotspots

Oh, and she gives us a sneak peek into her upcoming fashion brand and what we can expect from it (spoiler — it's going to be just as chic as you'd expect).

What’s your personal style philosophy?

My personal style can be described as polished with a touch of flair. I make a point to dress well every day, no matter the occasion. When it comes to defining and refining personal style, I believe it's crucial to take note of what makes you feel confident and comfortable.

Pay attention to the outfits that make you feel your best and reflect your true self, and build from there. For me, personal style has always been about embracing classic pieces like blazers while adding a hint of femininity. Personal style shouldn't be about copying trends but rather about embracing what you love and what makes you feel good.

What trends are on the horizon, and any we should be leaving behind?

While I prioritise personal style over trends, I have noticed a few emerging trends that catch my eye. Firstly, the effortless cool-girl aesthetic, incorporating elements like preppy sweaters layered over polo shirts or tees. Also, I see tights making a strong comeback, especially in more preppy and refined looks.

There's also a rise in popularity of strong masculine sets, such as matching blazers and pants, which align with my personal style.

As for trends I'm ready to leave behind, I'm not a fan of overly tight or revealing clothing. I prefer pieces that have a relaxed, oversized fit, so I'm happy to bid farewell to anything, particularly form-fitting. Also, the festival wear trend doesn't resonate with me outside of a festival setting, so I'm ready to see it fade away.

What are your go-to beauty products?

My must-have beauty products are my Hands of Mine’s Healing Mineral Masks ($29) and an oil cleanser from Living Libations. These natural products are essential to my skincare routine and travel with me wherever I go.

What’s the best piece of business advice you can share from your years of experience working in the fashion industry?

Firstly, always prioritise the customer at every touchpoint of your business. They are the lifeblood of your brand and should guide every decision you make. Secondly, consistently invest in your personal and self-development. Your energy and vitality as a business owner are crucial to the success of your brand.

Finally, embrace failure as a learning opportunity and use it to pivot and improve. Failure is inevitable but essential for growth and innovation.

Can you share any hints on the upcoming fashion label you’re working on?

I'm thrilled to be working on my own fashion brand, launching in September, which will be an extension of my personal style. Expect masculine yet feminine pieces with a focus on polished tailoring. It’s suitable for both office wear and special events. While the brand is still new and evolving, I'm excited to connect with customers and build something truly special.

What are your favourite Melbourne spots?

For coffee, I love Blakeaway or Gilson for their excellent hospitality and service.

For dinner, I love any restaurant by Andrew McConnell and Chris Lucas — in particular, Gimlet, Marion, Lillian, and Grill Americano. France-Soir and Hazel are two other favourites, along with many others.

For drinks, I love to head to Apollo Inn, Gilson, Tetto di Carolina, and Ru-Co Bar at the Grand Hyatt. I love a hotel bar because it reminds me of my overseas adventures.
