Book a table at one of the best cafes in Berry for your next breakfast date.
There’s a reason people keep coming back to Berry . Yes, the boutiques are good and the drive down is beautiful, but honestly… a lot of it comes down to the food. Berry’s café scene punches well above its weight for a charming country town this size. Think heritage buildings repurposed into buzzing all-day spots, house-made everything, and the kind of ‘locals-know-best’ energy that makes a Saturday morning stretch into afternoon without you even noticing.
Whether you’re rolling through on a South Coast road trip, spending a long weekend in the Southern Highlands, or making the dedicated pilgrimage that Berry locals will tell you is absolutely worth it, the cafes here are a destination in their own right. From early morning coffee stops to leisurely lunches with a glass of something local, here are the best cafes in Berry to add to your hit list. Bring your second stomach!
The Berry Tea Shop
This charming little tea shop-slash-tearoom is the go-to for a good old-fashioned morning or afternoon tea. A seriously cute café dishing up cakes and slices, stop in for a morning tea break and sample The Berry Tea Shop’s famous scone with jam and cream.

Queen St Cafe
In the heart of Berry, Queen St. Cafe offers an all-day menu that seamlessly blends international cuisines. This cafe’s charm lies in its eclectic ambience – stepping inside, you’ll be greeted by a warm, inviting space adorned with vintage furniture. It’s a place where service takes centre stage, and they’ll host you and your companions with care and attention. Whether you fancy a leisurely breakfast with a Bloody Mary or a late brunch with their tempting array of dishes, Queen St. Cafe is the place to be.

Berry General Store
If Berry had a beating heart, it would probably be the General Store. A modern reimagining of a century-old landmark on Prince Alfred Street, this is the perfect place to claim a spot in the sunny courtyard or up on the cosy balcony, and watch Berry’s main street do its thing.
The food is exactly what you want after a drive down the coast: house-made treats, generously stacked sandwiches, chilli fried eggs and hearty breakfast bowls done with care. The retail side is equally good, with natural wines curated in partnership with Goodfellas Wine Store, local beers, premium spirits and specialty goods that make for excellent boot-of-the-car souvenirs. This one’s a non-negotiable stop.
Sitchu Tip: Stop by for dinner service on Friday and Saturday nights if you’re staying for the weekend.

Milkwood Bakery
Head to Milkwood Bakery and while you’re there you really need to order the sourdough (they’re renowned for it), or at the very least pick up a little treat for later from their selection of cakes and pastries.

The Famous Berry Donut Van
A fixture on the scene for nearly 60 years, The Famous Berry Donut Van is the place to pick up a sweet treat. It serves up cinnamon doughnuts straight from the oven – is there any other way to eat them? – along with hot dogs, pies and coffee.

Il Locale
When the sun’s out, Il Locale Cafe is the go-to but their gelato display will make choosing a flavour the hardest decision of the day. The 70% cow milk gelato is sourced locally, brought in from The Pines in Kiama – and it doesn’t get fresher than that. Located on the main street in Berry, this little gelateria also has a strong lunch menu too. Post-lunch dessert after is a must though.

Open seven days a week, The Garden is everything you want from a wholesome brunch date – locally sourced produce, house-made products and a menu that can take you from breaky pancake stacks to crisp lunchtime craft beers. The leafy outdoor courtyard is a dream come true on a sunny winter’s day.
