In partnership with Foot Locker, we went behind the scenes at Fast Lane, powered by ASICS, where a secret 5K through Brisbane ended with 200 runners taking over Suncorp Stadium after dark.

Brisbane’s run-club era just went stadium-sized. On Wednesday, 9 September, around 200 runners gathered near Suncorp Stadium for the second Foot Locker Fast Lane event, powered by ASICS. Ahead of them: five kilometres through a starlit Brisbane, guided pace groups, a custom tee and the chance to run in the new ASICS NOVABLAST 6, along with one fairly important detail nobody had been told: where the run would end.

Places at Fast Lane had been secured via raffle, giving runners access to a one-night-only event bringing together performance running, music, culture and community. The secrecy was half the appeal, with Foot Locker Striper staff leading the pace groups as runners laced up the NOVABLAST 6 and headed out into the city.

Designed for runners looking for an energetic, responsive ride, the NOVABLAST 6 was put straight to work across the streets of Brisbane. Its FF BLAST MAX cushioning and new FF TURBO SQUARED forefoot pod are engineered to add bounce and responsiveness through each stride, giving runners the chance to experience the shoe in motion rather than simply meet it at a launch. The streets, in other words, became the test run.

For the first few kilometres, the groups moved through Brisbane with no real idea where the route was taking them. Pace groups stretched and closed again, shoes hit pavement, conversations carried between runners and the city kept moving around them. Then Suncorp came back into view, the gates opened and the whole stadium was glowing pink.

Inside, Fast Lane’s signature hot pink ran across the LEDs and giant screens while music bounced around the empty stands, making one of Brisbane’s most recognisable sporting venues feel completely different to its usual game-day self. Normally, Suncorp belongs to elite athletes, packed grandstands and tens of thousands of spectators. For one Wednesday night, around 200 runners were the ones treated to the spotlight.

The route continued inside the stadium, sending the packs around the field beneath the glowing screens before they crossed the finish. Some runners laughed, others reached straight for their phones, all taking in the fact that the entire venue had been lit up for them. There is a particular thrill in being allowed somewhere you would normally only see from the stands, especially when you have spent most of the preceding five kilometres with no idea that is where the night is heading.

It also made Suncorp a fitting final stretch for the NOVABLAST 6. Having carried runners through the city, the shoe finished the route beneath the stadium lights, where its cushioning, bounce and responsiveness could be felt from city streets to stadium floor. That’s the beauty of Fast Lane: performance sits at the heart of the run, while the music, access and shared experience turn five kilometres into something much bigger.

Once the running was done, the pace groups gave way to food, drinks and prizes, with runners staying on inside Suncorp to replay the reveal they had just been treated to. A secret route, around 200 runners, one hot-pink stadium and the new NOVABLAST 6 put through its paces. Not bad for a Wednesday night.
