The Best of Adelaide According to By NIKŌL’s Nicola Nikolaidis & Nicole Tomasek
Explore Adelaide with local beauty entrepreneurs Nicola Nikolaidis and Nicole Tomasek.
This International Women’s Day, we’re touring our capital cities through the lens of the local women who inspire us. In Adelaide, where we’re pulling up a chair with the duo behind the rising haircare label By NIKŌL, Nicola Nikolaidis and Nicole Tomasek.
If your beauty cabinet features their sun-safe serum, So’l Thic, you’re already well-acquainted with their knack for high-performance vanity. But beyond the SPF and the hair-thickening magic, they have their fingers firmly on the pulse of the Adelaide lifestyle.
From city to coast, we stole a few moments of their time to talk hidden-gem dining, where they go to reset and the female-founded businesses they have on speed dial.
What is your go-to breakfast spot (and order)?
We love 30 Acres on the Parade. This one is especially sentimental for us — it’s where we first started our business discussions about By NIKŌL. The coffee is always perfect, and our go-to order is the Farm Kale Spanakopita. It never disappoints!
What is an underrated dinner spot more people should know about?
Part Time Lover; we’ve been there many times and get just as excited every time. We also just went to the new Greek restaurant, Omada Bar & Grill on Currie Street, and loved it.
What is the perfect date spot in Adelaide?
Going to the cinema and eating burgers in the dark like slightly sophisticated teenagers. We’ll start off debating the film like we’re seasoned critics, only to undermine ourselves by enthusiastically demolishing burgers and fries halfway through the opening credits — and dessert is popcorn and Maltesers (of course). With both of us constantly on the go, there’s something so nice about pressing pause for a couple of hours and just switching off together.
What is your favourite Adelaide suburb (and why)?
We both live on the east side, so Norwood is basically on our doorstep. We love The Parade, it’s always buzzing and has a bit of everything. You can grab a great coffee, wander through a few shops, and in terms of food, everything is there.
But, during the warmer months, we’re drawn into the city. East End is a favourite, especially around Adelaide Fringe time. There’s something about that atmosphere — it feels spontaneous and fun, like you don’t need much of a plan.

What is a foodie spot you’d love to gatekeep?
No matter the time of day, we could demolish the roast pork salad and fried potato skins from Hello Neighbour on King William Road. Otherwise, the Wild Zaatar and Chicken Wrap from Ballaboosta flavours are so good. We would probably cry if these meals ever disappeared from the menu.
Where do you go when you need a reset?
We love the beach and spend as many summer days down there as we can. We always seem to end up at Henley Beach and find a nice spot where we can just relax and unwind.
A local female-owned business you love supporting (and why)?
We can’t decide on one, so here are a few. Beauty by Sofia Katerina is a well-loved studio in Magill; Sofia is a perfectionist and truly the best at what she does. Libby from TOX Aesthetics is someone you can always count on for a pick-me-up in a welcoming environment. Patricia Amadio delivers all things beauty — you can always expect the best time with Pat. And nothing is more relaxing than a treatment at Miss Maderotherapy; you’ll leave feeling like the absolute best version of yourself.
Tell us about a woman who inspires you (and why)?
Molly-Mae Hague is the kind of woman who refuses to let the world dictate her path. No matter the critics or the noise, she follows her instincts, embraces challenges head-on, and keeps her head held high. Whether it’s building her business or stepping into motherhood, she moves with unwavering determination — proving that resilience isn’t just about surviving, it’s about thriving on your own terms.
Eva Longoria is also a force of resilience and empowerment. As a producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, she shows how influence can spark real change. She proves that true success isn’t just about lifting yourself up — it’s about lifting others along the way.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
One piece of advice that has always stuck with us is: “You won’t be the first, and you won’t be the last.” It’s a reminder that no matter what challenge or opportunity comes your way, you’re part of a bigger story. It teaches patience and perspective.
What do you value most about womanhood?
The quiet, unshakable resilience that lets us rise again and again. It’s the courage to embrace every part of our journey — the triumphs, the stumbles, and the messy, beautiful in-between. Womanhood is luminous, fierce, and tender all at once, and that is something to celebrate every single day!
