The Best of Adelaide With Ellie Walker
Gather Round is set to bring the buzz to Adelaide, and there’s no one better to show you around than someone who knows the city (& footy) inside and out.
Ellie Walker — Adelaide local, style source, mum of three and wife to Adelaide Crows star, Taylor Walker — knows Adelaide. From long winery lunches in the Hills to low-key family days by the coast, her take on life in South Australia is equal parts relaxed, refined and effortlessly fun (with very good coffee in between). Whether you’re in town for the footy or planning a weekend escape, she’s shared the spots she swears by — from brunch favourites to hidden gems that are worth seeking out.
If it’s your first time in Adelaide, how would you spend the perfect 24 hours?
I’d stay at EOS by SkyCity, you’re right in the middle of everything, which makes it so easy. Start with a walk along the River Torrens and a coffee, then a wander through the Adelaide Central Market.
If you feel like a quick shop, head out to Burnside Village — the expansion is beautiful and worth a visit. Then onto the Adelaide Hills for a long winery lunch before heading back into the city for dinner and drinks.
Where are you heading for your go-to coffee order?
Pepo Eatery on King William Road is my go-to. The coffee never misses, and their cinnamon scrolls (baked fresh daily) are worth getting in early for.
Where do you take out-of-town guests when you want to show off Adelaide’s dining scene at its best?
Definitely Omada Bar & Grill. It’s Adelaide’s newest Greek restaurant in the city, and it’s already such a standout. The food is incredible, the vibe is so fun, plus the fit-out is stunning. It genuinely feels like you’ve been transported to somewhere Mediterranean for the night.
What’s one quintessential Adelaide experience everyone should have at least once?
A day that starts in the Adelaide Hills with a coffee and a wander, followed by a long winery lunch. It’s the perfect way to experience South Australia and to see just how close everything is.

Where are you stopping for a pre or post-game bite or drink in Norwood?
Khou Bar for a pre-game drink, it’s the perfect spot to start the night. Then Sitchu Awards winner Mensa for a delicious post-game dinner. And if there’s room, a cheeky ice cream from Messina next door.
What’s a hidden gem you love that deserves a little more attention?
Suree’s Thai takeaway is a proper hidden gem. It’s our go-to takeaway on a Sunday night, and the choo chee fish is incredible.
Where are you heading for brunch right now — and what are you ordering?
Whistle & Flute. I’m a classic girl: avocado on toast, something fresh on the side, some chilli oil and a really good coffee. Just Down The Road is also another favourite for a delicious sandwich and coffee. You can’t beat it.
Where do you go when you’re in need of a reset?
The beach — usually Somerton Park or Port Willunga. The fresh air, sunshine, and the kids running around. It fixes everything.
What’s one non-negotiable you’re always bringing to the footy?
A warm coat or jacket because Adelaide nights don’t mess around. Plus, snacks for the kids… I never come unprepared!
What does your perfect day in the Barossa Valley look like?
The Barossa is one of those places you can go back to again and again. I’d always stay the night, either in a beautiful Airbnb or somewhere like Kingsford The Barossa.
Start slow with coffee and pastries on the main street, then a long lunch at a winery. Hentley Farm, St Hugo, Fino Seppeltsfield or Alkina are all favourites. Then dinner at FermentAsian to finish.
What does your idea of the perfect date night in Adelaide look like?
Dinner somewhere on Leigh Street or Peel Street — Omada Bar & Grill or Fugazzi Dining Room — both are intimate and fun with incredible food. Then followed by a few drinks down the laneways. It’s our go-to every time.
And finally, when you’ve got a free day with the family, how are you spending it?
A morning walk or scooter ride with the kids for coffee at Pepo, then some time at the park or pottering around the garden at home. We’ll usually spend the afternoon at a winery, either in the Adelaide Hills at Cobb’s Hill Estate or in McLaren Vale at Down The Rabbit Hole. Somewhere relaxed where the kids can run around, and we can all enjoy it.
