Bastille Day: Where to Toast, Feast & Feel Très Français This July
From long French lunches to Parisian-style markets and live jazz, here’s where to fête Bastille Day in Sydney — no passport required.
From French feasts and jazz-filled lunches to cheese carts and creamy crème brûlées, Sydney knows how to throw a Bastille Day bash.
Whether you’re craving a Chateaubriand by the water or shopping like a Parisian in Haymarket, here’s where to get your French fix this July.

Bistro Moncur
A Sydney institution with timeless charm, Bistro Moncur is rolling out a très magnifique Bastille Day offering on Sunday 13 July. The star of the show? A gloriously tender roasted Chateaubriand, served with all the decadent trimmings — we’re talking duck fat potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and a rich horseradish jus that might just change your life.
The special is available from midday until sold out, so you’ll want to get in early. To complete the experience, Head Chef Tom Deadman has crafted a bespoke entrée and dessert for the day — because what’s a French feast without dessert.

Running Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July, settle in to one of two lavish set menus: ‘Liberté’ at $95pp (min. two guests) or ‘La Grande Révolution’ at $160pp (min. four guests). Live jazz between 1pm–4pm sets the scene for a très chic lunch you won’t forget.

Expect to swoon over scallop boudin with spinach and caviar, and confit chicken that melts in your mouth. Dessert is just as dreamy — think tarte tatin with crème fraîche or poached pear with candied walnuts. For a refined Bastille Day experience with a side of Parisian glamour, Franca is going all out on the weekend of 12–13 July. Live jazz, complimentary French 75 cocktails and an effortlessly elegant three-course set menu for $125pp? Say less.
The menu reads like a love letter to classic French cuisine: foie gras and winter truffle terrine, blanquette de veau with fried sweetbreads, and a show-stopping Crêpes Suzette with Grand Marnier. Settle in for a long lunch or early dinner — this is Potts Point indulgence at its best.

Hay St Market
Who says a French market experience has to come with a long-haul flight? From July 9, Hay St Market is hosting its first-ever Bastille Day Festival — and it’s bringing all the charm of a bustling Parisian marché right to the heart of Sydney.
Expect French food pop-ups galore (hello, beef bourguignon and duck cassoulet), gooey croque monsieurs, and delicate pastries. Kids can join in on the fun too, with face painting, cookie decorating, craft stations, and roving entertainment from mime artists to accordionists. Whether you’re popping by for lunch or staying late for the live DJs, this is one family-friendly celebration that doesn’t skimp on the flavour or fun.

Frenchies Bakery & Pâtisserie
Frenchies are keeping things classic this year with special offerings across both their bakery and bistro from now until Sunday 20 July. Over at Frenchies Bakery & Pâtisserie, sweet tooths can indulge in the decadent Chocolate Merveilleux — French meringue layered with coffee Chantilly and dark chocolate — plus freshly baked Madeleines for that perfect Parisian bite.
Next door at Frenchies Bistro & Brewery, they’re serving up a hearty Cassoulet Montalbanais ($39) from Tuesday 15 July — a rustic, soul-warming dish brimming with confit pork belly, duck leg, Toulouse sausage and creamy white beans. It’s winter comfort food, the French way.

Luc-San
Bastille Day gets a modern twist at Luc-San, a sleek izakaya-meets-bistro from chef Luke Mangan that fuses French technique with Japanese flair. Think steak tartare with crispy brioche and wasabi leaf, duck with ume and burnt orange, and cocktails that taste like Paris by way of Tokyo.
Make sure you leave room for dessert — the matcha brioche bread-brûlée ‘Suzette’ is a must, and the coconut blancmange with mirin and yoghurt snow is just the right kind of quirky. Tucked into a Potts Point laneway, Luc-San is perfect for those who like their Bastille Day with a twist (and a killer martini).

For $130, guests can settle in for a curated three-course shared menu that showcases traditional French gastronomy — think rabbit, pork and prune terrine, steak tartare, and a glorious choucroute garnie.
The celebrations continue at Loulou Boulangerie & Traiteur, where you’ll find limited-edition pastries like vanilla and raspberry mille-feuille and the dreamy Oreiller de la Belle Aurore pillow pastry from 12–14 July. Très délicieux.
