Making Waves: Bronte Surf Club’s Epic $24M Upgrade
One of Sydney's oldest surf clubs is getting a modern-day makeover.

Bronte Surf Life Saving Club, a foreshore fixture since 1903, is set for a $24 million transformation that will bring one of Sydney’s oldest surf clubs into the 21st century. The iconic clubhouse, long a hub for lifesaving, community gatherings and beacheside culture, is being completely reimagined, blending state-of-the-art facilities with spaces designed for lifestyle, events and connection.

Designed in collaboration with leading architecture firm Warren and Mahoney, the project is already in full swing, with construction commencing following council approval earlier this year. It is expected to open its doors in 2026, ushering in a fresh chapter for both lifesavers and the community.
The new clubhouse, designed with both functionality and flair in mind, will house state-of-the-art patrol rooms, a first aid centre, and dedicated spaces for the club’s 800 Nippers and 350 active members. There will also be inclusive change rooms, a gym, multipurpose event spaces, a kiosk and even a rooftop garden that doubles as public parkland — blending seamlessly into Bronte’s natural beauty.

“The new club will feature enhanced lifeguard operational facilities, public amenities, lifesaving infrastructure and more inclusive spaces for the thousands of volunteers, members and beachgoers who visit each year,” said Mayor, Will Nemesh.

The redevelopment honours the club’s proud history while looking boldly to the future. More than just a building, it will be a vibrant community hub where lifesaving, lifestyle and local spirit come together.
