The Best Breweries in Sydney for a Craft Brew

Sydney is blessed with an abundance of craft breweries - almost enough that you could visit one a weekend for a whole year and still have more to explore. And it's not just beers you'll find at these fine establishments. With a passion for local produce and supporting other Sydney businesses, these breweries are havens for creative collaborations, fine food and live music. If you're yet to discover the best breweries in Sydney spicing up the craft beer scene, let us be your guide. 

Wildflower Brewing 

Tucked into a cul-de-sac in Marrickville, this rustic brewery is brewing some of the most unique beers in the country. Wildflower's beers are incredibly nuanced, subtle and complex with tasting notes that you can actually...well, taste. With flavour coming from flowers native to NSW combined with grain, hops and fruit sourced from regenerative growers, you won't find anything more local. They're constantly playing with new flavours and brews so we recommend popping by regularly. If you get peckish, you can enjoy locally made bread, terrine from iconic Sydney restaurant Porcine, pickles and delicious slabs of grilled Gold Street Dairy Jersey Cheese.

Chuck & Son's Brewing 

Chuck & Sons may be the new kids on the block but they've touched down in St Peters with a wealth of experience on their side. A collab between beer legend Chuck Hahn (yep, that Hahn) and his son Scott Hahn, Chuck & Son's are churning out some pretty delish brews. Here, the focus is on impeccable classics - recipes that Chuck has been perfecting for over 50 years in the industry. Sessionable and refreshing, it's just the ticket for a Saturday arvo. 

As for the taproom itself, think elevated - and kid-friendly! A well-stocked kid's corner makes the space ideal for a family day out.

Yulli's Brews 

This laidback working brewery always exudes a great vibe which the incredible beers clearly contribute to. Located in a quiet backstreet in Alexandria, there's plenty of space to pull up a stool, or couch, and get amongst one of Sydney's favourite beer brands. You can score all their classics on tap alongside a range of vego food that hits the spot just right. Yulli's also hosts a bunch of fun events so keep across their socials for the likes of greyhound art shows (yes, the dogs) and jazz nights.

Sunday Road Brewing 

Sunday Road combines the food truck/brewery culture we know and love with a hefty hint of class. The emerald green taproom is one you'll be happy to while away a few hours. They've got a fab core range and are always brewing something fun when it comes to their limited-edition seasonal beers. 

147 Bath Road, Kirrawee  

Atomic 

Conveniently located a short walk from Redfern station, Atomic is your go-to for an inner-city microbrewery. Surrounded by tanks of the good stuff, you can sit back to sample limited-release beers and a swish core range. To top it off, the kitchen churns out some great pan-Asian bites and meals with deals throughout the week. Swing by on a Monday for free trivia!

Hawke's Brewing 

Hawke's brew wholesome beers, simple as that. Their Patio Pale and Lager are a beer fridge staple whilst their gold medal-winning XPA is an Australian summer distilled into beer format. As for their brewery, well that's something else. The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre is a homage to the 80s and we love it to bits. Packed with Hawke memorabilia, a pool room and an Australian-Chinese restaurant (that we reckon churns out some of the best bites in town), it's a special place that we can't help but to return to often. 

8-12 Sydney Road Marrickville 

One Drop

Located on a nondescript street in Botany, as all good breweries usually are, One Drop is a lush oasis for beer drinkers and friends. They've got a seriously good selection on tap with variety the aim of the game, alongside a fab lineup of events, live music and food trucks. They also offer brewery tours on Thursdays and Fridays if you'd like to delve a little deeper. 

5 Erith Street, Botany 

The Grifter Brewing Co.   

Another stalwart of Sydney's craft beer scene, The Grifter Brewing Co. has been brewing classics since 2012. A four-pack of their distinct orange cans which houses their easy-drinking pale ale is always a welcome gift as are their iconic watermelon pilsners. Swing by their industrial warehouse tasting rooms for a paddle if you'd like to learn more. If you're after something to nibble on whilst you taste, head by on Friday, Saturday or Sunday for some house-made pizza.

Young Henry's 

Perhaps one of Sydney's most recognisable beers, Young Henry's Newtowner is an Australian staple. They're at the top of their game, brewing easy-drinking classics and collaborating with other Aussie brands and businesses to craft fun, innovative limited-release brews. Swing by their Newtown tasting bar to sample the goods, play some pool and soak up a sunny atmosphere.
