We put the question to someone who knows the occasion better than most: Kate Casey, Co-Founder of Australian parenting boutique The Memo.
Kate tells us the best baby shower gifts include something for both Mum and the baby. So while itâs easy to get distracted by all the adorable baby buys, donât forget about Mum!
“Traditionally, people have focused on gifts for the baby, but as a parenting retailer, we never forget about the parents,” she says. “Nine out of ten women reported that they felt unprepared for the postpartum period. The focus is often about the baby, especially the nursery and the birth, rather than their own recovery.” Slipping in a little something for Mum is a thoughtful reminder that youâre thinking about her too.
Kate also suggests looking beyond the newborn age bracket. While those first few months tend to attract plenty of gifts, the stages that follow can be overlooked.
“It can be really great to look at products in the 3-12 month bracket, which considers different stages, such as products to support the introduction of solids, teething, or even larger sizes in clothes,” says Kate. They might not get used immediately, but theyâll be very glad to have them when the time comes.
And if youâre a mum yourself, something you personally loved can make an especially thoughtful gift.
“I love when someone gives you their personal favourite product with a card of the reasons why they so highly recommend it”, says Kate.
