In This Guide:
Best Sunday Roast for a Classic Pub Feast
The Bat & Ball Hotel
The first roast of the season at the Bat & Ball Hotel was absolutely heaving and believe us, it’s worth the hype. Despite the miserable weather Sydney is having, the mood inside was cosy and full of life, with groups of friends, couples and families all settling in for one thing… the pub’s famed Sunday roast.
Choose from beef, chicken or a vegetarian option, but roast purists should absolutely lean towards the beef. It’s perfectly cooked, deeply rich in flavour and drenched in a gravy that tops it off perfectly. That said, the roast chicken gives it a serious run for its money, especially with that golden, crispy skin.
This year, the pub has levelled things up with a new add-ons menu, and it’s well worth leaning in. The cauliflower cheese arrives bubbling hot with the perfect crispy top, while the roast bone marrow is gloriously indulgent and savoury. If you can make room, end things on a sweet note and order the sticky date pudding which comes drenched in a butterscotch sauce with a cherry on top. It’s very good.
This kind of food makes us glad it’s winter, but do yourself a favour and book ahead because it’s a popular one!

Best Sunday Roast for Sharing and Groups
Three Blue Ducks
One of Sydney’s most beautiful dining venues, The Three Blue Ducks in Rosebery has returned this year with another iteration of their Sunday Roast, and it made for our ideal Sunday afternoon. So perfect we haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. Choose between beef, pork belly, roast pumpkin or lamb shoulder, add some sides on to share and a glass (or two) of natural wine – perfection.
With experience in classic British cooking, chef Stuart Toon, who now leads the kitchen, has brought that classical approach to the roast menu, which is so popular among Brits that the restaurant is pretty much packed from 3pm onwards. You’d be hard-pressed to walk out of there hungry – portions are generous and the menu of sides so enticing you have to add one at least! Three cheese cauliflower? Do yourself a favour and order it for the table; thank us later. You know where to find us on Sunday afternoons from now on…
Sitchu Tip: The $75pp shared feast is a brilliant (and cost-effective) way to sample the full menu. It comes with a serving of the pork roast and I’m honestly still thinking abut it. I’m famously not a pork person and never order it, but this version was unreal. The crackling was perfect and the meat was so moist with none of the off-putting fatty bits you often encounter with pork. It also had this beautiful, herby filling inside which really made the meat sing. It’s also a non-negotiable to finish with the sticky toffee pudding; that rich butterscotch sauce was to die for.

Rocker Bondi
Pair a sunset over Bondi with a killer roast dinner and you may just have the perfect Sunday. With wagyu beef rump, crispy pork belly and maple spiced roast pumpkin to choose from, each tasty dinner at Rocker Bondi comes with all the trimmings — we’re talking roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, honey-roasted carrots and of course, an epic gravy.
This year, they’ve introduced the BIG roast, featuring both beef and pork and all the sides and important condiments — perfect for sharing. Grab one and split with a friend or get a couple and share with the whole crew.

Best Sunday Roast in the Sydney CBD
The Duke of Clarence
Down a laneway off Clarence Street, The Duke of Clarence is about as close to a genuine London tavern as the CBD gets. The fit-out leans into it properly too, with a snug, a library enclave and a roaring fireplace which is perfect to settle into on a wintry afternoon, especially with a Sunday roast on the table. Expect British Bred beef sirloin, porchetta, lamb (or a spiced eggplant option for the vegos), all served with Yorkshire pudding, heirloom carrots and roast potatoes. The extras menu is where it gets serious, though; think pigs in blankets, garlic-breadcrumbed cauliflower and cheese, and salt and malt vinegar roast potatoes. Properly delicious!

The Cut Bar & Grill
When it comes to Sunday lunch goals, The Cut’s Weekend Roast is not playing around. For $49, you get their slow-cooked Cape Grim prime rib — rich, smoky and irresistibly tender — stacked high with Yorkshire pudding, beef-fat Hasselback potatoes, crushed peas, and just-right sautéed onions and carrots. All of it comes drizzled in serious horseradish cream and that luscious red wine jus to soak it all up.
The vibe? Sleek, cosy and reliably delicious. The bonus? Add on the hot fudge sundae for $21 and finish your meal on chocolatey heaven notes — because why not? Available every weekend, both Saturdays and Sundays — tuck in and tuck away the rest of the day.
