Fremantle Arts Centre’s Bazaar Makers Market

Celebrating 47 years of local creativity, the Bazaar Makers Market returns to the lawns of Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December. With a line-up thoughtfully curated by a panel of artists, the weekend promises a creative smorgasbord of talented works to discover.

This year, there’ll be 56 makers set up across the grounds, bringing ceramics, original art, statement jewellery, fashion, homewares and other beautiful things for gifting (or treating yourself to), along with the personal stories behind each piece. Look out for nature-inspired prints and watercolours by Junko Kitamura, playful ceramics from local studio collaboration Side by Side, and Belén Berganza’s handcrafted porcelain lamps and wind chimes. Visiting from Gujarat, India, fourth-generation Kutch weaver Rajan Bhimji Vankar will also bring centuries-old textile traditions to the market for the first time ever.

Make an evening of it on Friday, when oysters, bubbles and DJs join the mix. Or lock in a weekend date, with art classes and Christmas-themed kids’ activities to cap off the day. Either way, you’re in for some excellent Christmas shopping.

For gifts with a little more personality, make a date with the Made on the Left Christmas Markets, returning to Fremantle’s Esplanade Park on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November. More than 100 WA artists, designers and makers will bring together ceramics, jewellery, contemporary fashion, artwork, homewares, skincare and gourmet goodies, with plenty to tempt you into a little self-gifting along the way. Championing local creativity for almost two decades, it’s also your chance to meet the people behind the pieces and hear how they’re made.

If you’re in search of unique, handmade items, look no further than the Perth Makers Market. Held at various locations throughout the city, this market showcases the work of talented local artisans. Subi Night Markets

Returning to the lush surrounds of Market Square Park this September, the Subi Night Markets bring a touch of Euro charm to Perth. From Italian arancini and cheesy raclette to French eclairs and glossy, chocolate-covered strawberries, the rotating line-up of 40+ boutique food vendors offers an international smorgasbord of street eats to devour – including new goods like Thai pancake rolls, Irish spice bags, hand-whisked matcha, molten cookies and more.

Popping up quarterly, within the University of Western Australia’s Winthrop Hall and its scenic grounds, is the city’s original and largest design market: the Perth Upmarket. Between beautiful old buildings, cloistered courtyards and sprawling gardens, you’ll find over 180 stalls filled with quality clothing, homewares, artwork, jewellery, and gourmet foods from some of the city’s best makers. With coffee and food vendors on site, be sure to pause to admire the heritage Romanesque architecture built from local Tamala limestone and Donnybrook sandstone.

Scarborough Sunset Markets

Dinner by the beach comes with plenty of choice at the Scarborough Sunset Markets, where global street food, artisan stalls and local music meet Indian Ocean sunsets. Summer’s Thursday evening sessions are made for a post-swim wander, browsing handmade goodies before deciding which food truck deserves your dinner order. Come winter, the markets move to Saturdays, with comfort food, fire pits and marshmallow roasting giving you plenty of reasons to rug up and head down.
