This Sydney Brand Has Us Rethinking Beach Style

While you weren’t looking, this beloved summer staple got a *very* stylish refresh.

The Acqua Brand

Growing up in Australia, you’ve likely owned at least one slightly unflattering, fluorescent coloured rashie at some point in your life. But, somewhere between growing older and developing a sense of personal style, chances are this piece was quickly (and quietly) evicted from your wardrobe rotation as soon as you got the chance.

But that’s all about to change because The Acqua Brand is giving us a grown-up take on the Aussie staple. Made in Sydney using premium Italian fabrics incorporating recycled fibres, the higher-coverage swimwear offers a more polished take on the rashies you remember. Think elegant, resort-ready styles made with fabrics the brand says are rated UPF50+.

Reminder: Sunscreen is only one part of sun protection. Prolonged high-risk sun exposure should be avoided, and sunscreen should be used frequently and re-applied according to label directions. Wear protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses, and seek shade.

Working with stylish silhouettes and flattering neutrals, the range features long-sleeve and short-sleeve swim shirts, as well as a relaxed-fit tank top style too. For the zip-up options, you can opt for either full-length sleeves or a shorter three-quarter sleeve, which are both perfect for layering over your favourite bikini.

As for the rest of the collection, you can expect high-waisted bikini briefs that fit in all the right places, and two splash-proof, zip-up pouches for storing all the essentials like your phone, lip products and of course, sunscreen.

Beyond sun protection, there’s plenty to love about the extra coverage, especially if teeny tiny bikinis aren’t your thing. After all, a little more modesty and comfort can make all the difference when you’re chasing an overly excited toddler down the sand, diving through waves or joining a game of beach cricket. Less time readjusting your swimmers means more time enjoying yourself.

The full collection is available to shop online now. Here are some of the pieces we’re currently eyeing off…
