A five-hour drive may feel like a long way to go, but that’s kind of the whole point. A couple hours out of Perth and the noise of everyday life starts to drift into the distance, giving way to expansive tree-lined roads and road trip karaoke. The journey gives your mind time to unwind before finally landing at your idyllic escape: a private eco cabin nestled between Denmark’s towering karri forests and awe-inspiring coastlines. Welcome to Heyscape.
Heyscape is already well known for its sustainable off-grid escapes, but their latest evolution feels even more intentional: bringing the signature cabin stays they’re known for together within one sprawling eco retreat located on the 800-acre Raintree Estate in Denmark.
By bringing everything together in one location, they’ve been able to expand the experience far beyond the cabin itself. Yes, you still get the remote escapism and beautifully designed stays they’re known for, with untouched nature in every direction and outdoor bathtubs made for long evening soaks beneath star-studded skies. But now there’s also an on-site restaurant and distillery, hotel-style guest services, new cabin formats and immersive tourism experiences that elevate the stay even further — and it sounds like they’re only just getting started.
Since launching with three one-bedroom cabins in November 2024, Heyscape Denmark has welcomed a string of new private cabins (a total of 15 new cabins are expected this year), offering a mix of one, two and four-person stays, as well as new two-bedroom interconnected cabins, perfect for friends and families looking to escape together.
We were lucky enough to check into one of the new two-bedroom stays, which feature two one-bed cabins connected by a spacious outdoor deck complete with shared living and dining, an outdoor kitchen (with your own Heston Blumenthal BBQ and wine fridge), side-by-side balcony baths and a private sauna. Inside each cabin, the thoughtful design details continue. There’s a comfy queen bed topped with 100% European flax linen bedding, a rainfall shower with native botanical bathroom products, the cosiest luxury bath robes and quality Bang & Olufsen speakers, to name a few. Safe to say, you’re not roughing it here.
After plonking our bags down, the bath was run and a bottle of Great Southern wine was cracked — setting up for a sunset soak with views out to Denmark’s iconic Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks. Come sundown, we’d tucked into a grazing board and fired up the barbecue (you can now book in-cabin culinary experiences featuring produce grown on site) before gazing out at the spectacular stars above. The next morning, we were greeted by kangaroos hopping past on their morning commute. A pretty majestic way to start your stay.
From there, days unfold at your own pace. Start slow with breakfast in your cabin or venture out to local hot spots like Mrs Jones, an old butter factory turned destination diner, for one of the region’s best brunches. Then why not fire up the sauna and run a cold bath for an energising contrast therapy session surrounded by nature? Private saunas are included in all new interconnected cabins, and a stunning new communal sauna, The Fieldhouse, is coming oh-so soon — offering all guests forest steam sessions accompanied by some of the property’s best views.
For those craving adventure, there’s a fleet of e-bikes you can borrow and five kilometres of new trails on the way. These new trails (currently being rolled out in stages) will better connect Heyscape with the majestic beauty of William Bay National Park and iconic local cycling routes like the famous (and seriously stunning) Munda Biddi Trail — just head to reception to pick up a map detailing the current trails on offer. Willing to head a little further? Denmark is brimming with breathtaking hikes, tree-top walks and pristine swimming spots, all an easy drive away.
If exceptional food and drink is more your thing, a visit to on-site restaurant The Dam is essential. With soaring jarrah, polished concrete, huge glass windows that frame tranquil dam views and a playground waiting just outside for the kids, you could happily relax here all day. Its menu is all about showcasing produce from the surrounding land, with a strong focus on sustainable agriculture and paddock-to-plate dining. And The Dam’s in-house spirits, crafted in their own Cannabis Botanical Distillery, are also delicious — offering a rare chance to sip hemp-infused gin, vodka and craft beers.
Oh, and don’t forget to hit the gift shop on your way out. Not only can you purchase bottles of those hemp-infused spirits to take home, but it’s also the only spot you can get your hands on the fragrances crafted by Raintree Estate owner and former luxury perfumer Steve Birkbeck.
For those keen to dive deeper, The Dam offers immersive wine and spirit tastings, as well as signature Catch ‘n’ Cook or Catch ‘n’ Indulge experiences exclusively for Heyscape guests that’ll see you venture out onto the farm and pull up your own marron (a local specialty) before tucking into your catch at lunch.
At the end of the day, your private cabin is always on hand if you’d prefer to just sit back and soak up the sounds of birds and rustling leaves, throw a yoga mat out on the deck, or curl up with a book and a cup of tea in bed. It’s these slower moments away from everything that truly ground the entire experience.
