You'll find them in most of Melbourne's best hotels; and they are all destinations in their own right, whether you’re spending the night or just passing through.

Forget room service and lacklustre eats under a metal cloche. Instead, prepare for gastronomic delight in the same vein as any of Melbourne's best restaurants.

These are Melbourne's best hotel restaurants for stylish wining and dining.

Luci

Luci at Hilton Melbourne LQS

Hidden within the Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street, Luci's contemporary Australian menu by Executive Chef Sam Moore nods to Melbourne's European accents and is designed to celebrate quality ingredients with refined simplicity at its core. As the dance of the dining room plays out beneath majestic marble columns, feast on fare like four cheese zucchini flowers with romesco and a vibrant octopus carpaccio, laced with nduja, chickpeas and pickled cucumber; hand-picked spanner crab with spaghettini verde, heirloom tomato and pangrattato, and bistecca alla Fiorentina.

Amphlett House at Ovolo Laneways

Ready to let the good times roll? Melbourne's newest taphouse, Amphlett House is one for the books. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s restaurant and theatre district, it's spearheaded by two of Australia’s hospitality finest, Andrea Gauldi (ex-Maybe Sammy, one of ‘The World’s 50 Best Bars’) and celebrated Melburnian chef, Ian Curley. Expect exceptional drinks and elevated pub classics coming together within a welcoming and upbeat atmosphere. The finger lime daiquiri is calling our name - we’ll see you there!

19-25 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne

La Madonna

La Madonna at Next Hotel

Dining decadence can be found on the third-level of Next Hotel. La Madonna is golden lit and cavernous, serving up riffs on Italian classics, as well as less obvious offerings. Treat yourself to a barrel-aged Negroni, share a plate of oysters or roasted quail arrosticini at the bar, then proceed into the depths of the restaurant to graze in a quiet corner with another cocktail in hand, or sink into a booth for an intimate dinner. The wine list favours Italian varietals, and the food menu is packed with flavours that are simple but striking. Buon appetito!

103 Little Collins Street, Melbourne

Strato at Oakwood Premier Melbourne

Fine dining gets taken to new heights (quite literally) at Strato, a sophisticated 60-seat restaurant located on the 40th floor of Oakwood Premier Melbourne, serving up sensational views, swanky LA vibes and a multi-sensorial experience where the ordinary is transformed into the extraordinary. The menu is inspired by seasonality, and by the five elements, bringing the best of the atmosphere (air), the hydrosphere (water), the cryosphere (ice and permafrost), the lithosphere (earth’s upper rocky layer) and the biosphere (living things) to each plate. With entry via a private elevator from the hotel lobby, and attached sister venue Sky Bar equally as enticing for a pre-or-post dinner tipple, the entire venue is set to blow you away - so much so you might need to lie down in one of the chic suites below.

Lona Misa is an all-day plant-based diner that transforms from café to restaurant to wine bar with ease. Start the morning with coconut yoghurt granola and huevos rancheros, or book in for luxurious Latin-inspired dinners and cocktails. Martinez continues to wield her kitchen magic by creating veganised versions of morcilla (Spanish blood sausage), peri peri chicken, and a mushroom pinchos morunos skewer and Brazilian seafood stew you must try to believe.

A unique all-night cocktail bar, Curious blends music programming, creative concoctions and a menu of small bites and share plates, evoking an experience to remember. The cocktails are designed to celebrate some of the defining cultural pillars of Melbourne; coffee, fashion and art. Pick your poison and then select a few bites to pair perfectly with it - think scallop tostadas with truffle ponzu, beef tartare, and miso baked eggplant tacos.

Ms Parker at The Motley

The Motley is delivering a new level of sophistication to Richmond, without compromising Melbourne’s eclectic and authentic feel. Ms Parker is a bustling ground floor cafe and fine dining restaurant sitting pretty within, that takes its name from the original owner, costumier Ms Mary Parker, who worked alongside Melbourne’s busiest drapers, tailors and makers of the late 1800's. It's an eclectic dining destination patterned with diverse textures and flavours, interwoven with history and character.

You might start the day with a breakfast pavlova and expertly crafted coffee, then move on to dishes of kangaroo tartare and Hiramasa kingfish, rainbow trout with beurre blanc and dry-aged lamb rump at the end of the day, all washed down with a Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, of course.
