Northcote Suburb Profile

Charming, community-centric and very on trend, once unassuming Northcote has undergone something of a renaissance in recent years. Originally the domain of creatives and long-established migrant groups, increasing gentrification has seen this artsy neighbourhood’s stakes soar. With edgy bars and cult brunch spots, Northcote has well and truly made its mark.

Living in Northcote
The Locals

Living in Northcote means embracing the hallmarks of its Italian heritage, as this suburb quickly becomes one of Melbourne’s most stylish addresses. From chic wine bars to world-class restaurants and the seemingly never-ending brunch rush-hour, Northcote has emerged from the shadows of its inner-north neighbors, claiming its spot as one of the city’s most desirable postcodes.

With its unique brand of laid-back cool, living in Northcote is defined by its charming, unpretentious vibe. Locals are often spotted on bikes, heading to organic produce stores or picnicking in leafy All Nations Park. The area’s artistic spirit shines through in its boutiques, record stores, and creative studios, alongside luxe mid-century furniture shops scattered across its streets.

Iconic venues such as Northcote Social Club and The Croxton host local and international acts, reflecting the vibrant nightlife of this once-sleepy suburb. And just when you think Northcote might have hit its peak, another High Street restaurant opens, a new café buzzes with excitement, and yet another grocer offering biodynamic smoothies appears. Northcote has well and truly arrived.

Multicultural and all-inclusive, Northcote welcomes everyone from young families to uni students in sprawling share houses. They’re drawn to the appeal of cheap Mediterranean wholesalers and a never-ending roster of cafés to choose from.As the area continues to gain traction, savvy office workers and cashed up singles are capitalising on Northcote’s low-key chic and easy access to the city. And the migrant groups that first called this vibrant area home have stayed true to their roots – while no longer a bastion of working-class Melbourne, Northcote has managed to retain its character.
