Dining with Dietaries: Gluten-Free Restaurants in Brisbane

Finding a gluten-free restaurant in Brisbane is easier than ever with our curated guide.

Madame Wu

Dining out with dietaries wasn’t always a walk in the park, but nowadays restaurants are working towards making eating out evermore inclusive. From dedicated GF establishments to considered menus, there’s a whole host of restaurants going all-out for the gluten-free among us. Whether you’re looking for a degustation menu or just a quick lunchtime bite, these are the best gluten-free restaurants in Brisbane…

Rogue Bistro

Rogue Bistro is your top pick if you’re on the hunt for inclusive fine dining. Their rotating degustations consist of five courses and are packed with local and seasonal goodies. They’ve got a separate degustation for vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free folk, pescatarians, dairy-free, seafood-free and onion/garlic-free, so if you’ve got even more dietaries to cater to in the group, this is an all-rounder.

The venue itself is low-lit and moody, with ambient lighting and marble tables setting the scene for a special meal.

14 Austin Street, Newstead

Nodo Donuts

A Brisbane brunch spot so popular that the locations keep multiplying, Nodo Donuts has been keeping Brisbane tummies and tastebuds in very good spirits since 2014 when owner Kate Williams decided to share the joy of gluten-free baked donuts with us all.

Nodo has since expanded to a hearty brunch menu, with most dishes available as dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan. Another spot that will tick all of the group chat’s requirements.

Multiple locations

Naga Thai

Naga Thai is serving colour, fun, bold Thai flavours, high-energy hospitality, and, of course, plenty of gluten-free dishes. You’ll find that the majority of Naga Thai’s sweet, salty, sour and spicy menu is gluten-free, with each dish clearly marked. No need to miss out on the incredible fish dumpling curry or even the famed Basque cheesecake. Most of their banquets are GF too, so if you’re feeling extra hungry, quiz the staff and they’ll point you in the right direction.

R2 Sidon Street, River Quay, South Bank

Madame Wu

This riverside restaurant in Brisbane is favoured for its delicious Asian fusion cuisine and elegant dining setting. Step through the bamboo entrance and move through the shadowed lighting, and a gluten-free feast awaits.

Madame Wu‘s dedicated gluten-free menu is yours to browse, whilst you enjoy a sip from and the signature cocktail bar manned by an in-house mixologist. With multiple options for entrees, sides, mains and even dessert, you’ll have to visit a few times to sample the lot!

Upper Plaza Level, 71 Eagle Street, Brisbane City

Covent Garden

A Sunday session at Covent Garden is a surefire good time. Inspired by its London namesake, this gorgeous gin bar and restaurant houses an incredible 700+ gins, so you can sample something different and find a brand new favourite G&T concoction. It’s also one of Brisbane’s very few entirely gluten-free and coeliac-friendly venues, from small bites to share plates.

142 Boundary Street, West End

Chu the Phat

Oh, how we adore a specially curated gluten-free menu! As sister to Madame Wu, you can rest assured Chu the Phat has got our sans-gluten friends top of mind. You won’t be going hungry with a whole host of Taiwanese, Hong Kong and Korean dishes for you to sample. Think Nanna Anna’s chilli chicken and LA 18 spiced pork ribs. Going all out? Wash it all down with a soju spritz!

111 Melbourne Street, South Brisbane

Dovetail Social

The philosophy at Dovetail Social is “If we didn’t tell you it was gluten-free, you wouldn’t know it!”. Owner Rejoice grew up in the Philippines, with a family who loved to cook and to eat. This passion continued through to her adult life, which soon included a coeliac husband, whom Rejoice was inspired by. After making him a gluten-free apple pie that took him back to the flavours of the real deal, Rejoice became a qualified pastry chef and set about creating one of the best gluten-free cafes in Brisbane.

Visit for all-day brekkie, lunch, sweet treats or a completely gluten-free high tea, and enjoy food you won’t even realise was sans-gluten.

49 Laura Street, Highgate Hill

Happy Boy

Happy Boy

A Chinese restaurant that specialises in large portions, small producer Australian wine and has a menu that is almost entirely GF? Happy Boy is calling our names. Head on in for the likes of fish slice drowned in Sichuan Chilli broth, Chinese BBQ roast duck and salt and pepper tofu. The convivial atmosphere is rounded out with a fairy-light strewn alfresco seating area, perfect for a balmy Brisbane evening.

Sitchu Tip: We recommend the banquet. At $50 per person, it’s one of the best value feasts in the city!

East Street, Fortitude Valley
