Friday: Straight To The Pool

Some weekends begin with an itinerary. This one should begin with wet hair, swimmers still damp from the pool and absolutely no idea what time dinner is.

Check in, drop the bag and forget the room for a while. The private balcony and its skyline or hinterland views can wait; Friday is already happening on Level 6, where Isoletto Pool Club holds Broadbeach at that glorious distance only a hotel pool can manage. Palms flicker above warm water, sun beds line the deck and submerged loungers look through a 12-metre glass wall towards the city, while somewhere between the first swim and the first drink, the week simply stops mattering.

Settle in with a spritz or two as the afternoon light softens over the buildings. The best part is what is not happening: nobody is working backwards from the drive home. Another hour in the water is entirely possible, followed by a long shower upstairs and an evening with nowhere urgent to be.

For Executive Room guests, sunset starts on Level 19 with drinks, canapés and panoramic skyline views stretching out below. Otherwise, Jin Cafe & Bar makes an easy pre-dinner stop downstairs. If Friday has reached the point where nobody feels like going far, Broadbeach has dinner, drinks and whatever comes next within walking distance. Follow the night wherever it goes, knowing the walk home is a short one.

Saturday: Let The Tram Decide

Saturday can take its time. Executive Room guests can start with a deluxe buffet breakfast on Level 19, coffee in hand as the city comes to life below. However the morning begins, the next move is south, with the light rail close by and only the loosest idea of where the day might take you.

With the G now extending from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads, exploring the Coast without a car has become remarkably easy. Burleigh is just 16 to 17 minutes from Broadbeach South, but riding straight to the end rather misses the fun. Mermaid Beach, Nobby Beach and Miami now sit along the same line, leaving the day open to appetite, weather and whichever stretch of water looks best from the window.

Hop off for lunch. Swim when the sun comes out. Stop for a drink because nobody has to drive. Then keep heading south and save some daylight for Burleigh, where James Street, the beach and the headland can comfortably absorb the afternoon.

Sitchu Tip: If there is energy for a walk, follow the Oceanview track around Burleigh Head towards Tallebudgera Creek, with basalt at the waterline, rainforest overhead and blue flashing through the trees.

By Sunday, nobody should be chasing achievements. Walk down to Kurrawa Beach while the sand is still cool and swim before Broadbeach fully wakes up. The hotel is close enough that a morning swim requires almost no planning: swimmers, sunscreen and the knowledge that a shower and breakfast are waiting a few minutes away.

Afterwards, stay local. Pacific Fair is within arm’s reach if one last browse appeals, with more than 400 stores and enough designer temptation to turn “just having a look” into a fairly elastic concept.

Or, better yet, return to Dorsett Gold Coast and go back to the pool. Find a sun lounge at Isoletto, slip into the heated water and stay there longer than intended. Sun on shoulders, something cold beside you, a book making almost no progress. Friday began here with the whole weekend ahead; by Sunday, there is still enough left to spend slowly.
