The best luxury accommodation in Freycinet has one rather unfair advantage: Freycinet itself. There is Wineglass Bay doing its improbable white-sand crescent, the Hazards turning pink as the light goes down, Coles Bay pottering along beside Great Oyster Bay, and walking tracks that begin with good intentions and end several hours later with sandy ankles, windblown hair and a very urgent need for dinner. Freycinet National Park is one of those places that makes colour seem slightly unreasonable.
Which is why coming back somewhere beautiful matters. Somewhere with a bath facing the bush, a deck made for Tasmanian pinot, dinner close enough that shoes become negotiable. Across Tasmania’s east coast, the best luxury stays in Freycinet range from all-inclusive lodges and private islands to architectural houses hidden among the gums. Wineglass Bay Estate
There are only eight retreats at Wineglass Bay Estate, spread across 52 acres beside Moulting Lagoon, and the scale of the place changes the tempo almost immediately. The water sits low and silver beyond the reeds, black swans move through without much urgency, and each adults-only cabin is turned towards it all through enormous windows. Inside, there are heated bathroom floors, deep beds, private decks and a stargazing window cut overhead for clear East Coast nights. From 18 September, the estate grows into itself a little further, with WADE restaurant and Kitty’s Mistake cellar door opening inside the black barn, joining the new Pinot Noir vineyard and giving guests very little reason to leave before breakfast.

There comes a point on a group trip when everybody having an actual bedroom becomes the height of civilisation. New for 2026, Freycinet Residences has two private houses across the Freycinet Resort estate, with the added bonus of resort facilities nearby. Freycinet Horizon sleeps four high above Great Oyster Bay, with a 270-degree view taking in the Hazards, Coles Bay and Moulting Lagoon; Pelican Horizon sleeps eight lower among the gums, with Pelican Bay out front and an enormous granite outcrop sitting rather dramatically behind the house. Fridge full, sunset sorted, nobody drawing straws for the sofa.

Casa Collection Bicheno
Casa Collection Bicheno has grown into three rather beautiful reasons to keep driving up the East Coast. The newest is The Pool Villa, a three-level house curved around a private pool, with spotted gum, natural stone, a sauna and Waubs Bay flashing through the windows. It sleeps eight, so this is the one for a birthday weekend with people who understand the importance of a long lunch. Casa Original goes warmer and more Mediterranean, with a sunken lounge, log fire and outdoor shower, while tiny Bambino sits higher on the hill with Diamond Island in view. Pick according to party size and how badly a private pool is required.

Freycinet Lodge
There is something rather smug-making about waking up already inside Freycinet National Park. Freycinet Lodge is the only accommodation within its boundaries, so Wineglass Bay mornings begin without the usual drive in, just coffee, walking shoes and whatever optimism remains about the climb. The rooms sit among the bush, some facing Great Oyster Bay, others the Hazards, with outdoor baths and wide decks made for that post-walk state of damp hair, tired legs and absolutely no intention of going anywhere else. Dinner is on-site too, thankfully, because after several hours of granite and sand, proximity becomes its own form of glamour.

Saffire Freycinet
Saffire Freycinet is the stay that made Freycinet a serious hotel destination, and 20 suites later it remains difficult to argue with. The Hazards sit beyond the windows, Private Pavilions come with their own plunge pools, and almost everything worth wanting is folded into the rate: meals at Palate, Tasmanian wine, the minibar and a rather excellent menu of ways to spend a day. Pull on waders for oysters and sparkling at a working marine farm, inspect beehives, meet the resident Tasmanian devils or simply return to the bath and watch Great Oyster Bay change colour.
Sitchu Tip: Opening in late 2026, The Jewel is Saffire turned up several notches: 800 square metres, three master suites, an 18-metre infinity pool and jacuzzi, plus its own villa host, private chef, guide and in-residence wine cellar. Rates start from $25,000, but split between six guests and suddenly the maths starts behaving itself. Consider it the most extravagant possible way to temporarily make Saffire your own.

The sauna came first at Still, which tells you quite a lot about its priorities. This Nordic-minded house on Swanwick Drive was built around the hot-cold cycle of a private sauna and outdoor shower, with Great Oyster Bay and the Hazards waiting beyond. Inside, almost every piece of timber is Tasmanian, from celery-top pine and myrtle to blackheart sassafras and Huon pine, worked into custom joinery throughout. There are three ensuite bedrooms, a reading room made for disappearing with a book, and space for up to 10 should the disappearing need to become a group activity.

There are hotels with water views, and then there is Picnic Island, which gives you the whole island. Set in Great Oyster Bay with the Hazards rising behind it, this newly reimagined stay is now fully hosted, with a private chef, island host and skipper looking after the practicalities while everybody else gets on with swimming, kayaking, eating and staring at Tasmania from an unusually advantageous angle. There is no Wi-Fi, very little phone reception, a clawfoot bath, Tasmanian art on the walls and dinner around a long oak table. With no more than 10 walkers at a time, the beach 100 metres away can feel almost implausibly empty.
