The Wait Is Over… North Sydney Pool Is Reopening!
After five years, North Sydney Olympic Pool has an official reopening date… August 7, 2026! The art deco icon beneath the Harbour Bridge has been closed since February 2021, undergoing major redevelopments over that time, (but from what we can see, it’s been worth the wait).
The original 50m and 25m pools have been upgraded with the art deco bones preserved, and the harbourside wall, sundeck and heritage stair tower are all still intact. New additions include a warm water pool, a kids’ splash pad, a 970-seat grandstand, an expanded gym with harbour views, spa and sauna facilities, a creche and a revamped Ripples Café. Basically, it’s gone from a beloved but ageing relic to one of the best aquatic centres in the country, with one of the best views on the planet. We’ll catch you there this summer!

Fancy a Stay In This Designer Home for $19.95?
Yes, you read that right. The Government Has Greenlit Sydney’s High-Speed Rail
A faster future could be on the horizon for Sydneysiders, as a high-speed rail which could whisk travellers from Sydney to Newcastle via the Central Coast officially being greenlit. The federal government has committed an additional $230 million for the development phase and says the funding will ensure the project is “shovel-ready” in two years.
Under the proposal, the first stage of the Sydney–Newcastle route would include six stops — Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Central Coast, Sydney Central, Parramatta and WSI — dramatically cutting travel times. Newcastle to Parramatta could take around 75 minutes, while Newcastle to WSI is projected at roughly an hour and a half, slashing the current journey by more than half. The long-term ambition is a full east-coast network linking Brisbane to Melbourne via Canberra, with trains capable of reaching 200km/h in underground segments.
While transformative, the project comes with major challenges. Minister King noted the immense planning, investment, workforce and multi-government cooperation required to deliver high-speed rail at this scale, and the importance of realistic timelines and rigorous preparation.
Western Sydney Airport is still set to open this year, though its connecting metro line may follow in 2027. The airport has confirmed contingency transport plans will be in place should the metro arrive later than expected. Meanwhile, government funding has been committed to explore future rail extensions across Sydney’s west, signalling that a more connected future is slowly taking shape.
Sydney’s New International Airport Will Open in October
Sydney’s long-awaited second international gateway at Badgerys Creek is finally gearing up to welcome passengers from late October this year. After years of build-out, the 24-hour, curfew-free airport will begin cargo flights earlier in the year before launching commercial passenger services that open a new chapter in how Sydneysiders fly.
Western Sydney International Airport is a game-changer for travel, with domestic carriers Qantas and Jetstar expected to anchor early services, connecting Western Sydney with major east-coast cities and regional hubs. On a larger scale, international operators are lining up, with Singapore Airlines already confirming it will fly from the new airpor and Air New Zealand signalling plans to start trans-Tasman flights in the first year of operations.
The new terminal and long runway are designed to handle both domestic and long-haul jets, meaning future routes could include connections across Asia, the Pacific and further afield as more airlines come on board.

Sydney Cyclists Just Scored A Game-Changing Upgrade
After years of anticipation, riders now have a seamless way to travel between the north side and the city, thanks to a newly opened cycling ramp across Sydney’s most famous crossing. The long-awaited addition replaces a steep obstacle that once made the journey tough for families, e-bikes and anyone hauling extra gear. With thousands already using the route daily, the upgrade is set to make active commuting more accessible and far more enjoyable for Sydneysiders.

Australia’s First MINISO LAND Has Arrived (and It’s a Pop-Culture Playground)
MINISO has opened its first-ever MINISO LAND in Australia, and Sydney has been given the honour. Taking over a sprawling, design-led space at Westfield Chatswood, the new flagship is part toy haven, part pop-culture museum, and entirely a feast for fans of all things cute and collectible.
There’s themed zones dedicated to global favourites (think Zootopia, Sanrio and more), endless shelves of plush toys and vinyl figures, and immersive displays built for snapping photos. This has really put the fun back into shopping.

Sydney’s Hidden Venue Gets Its Glow-Up: The Cutaway at Barangaroo
Beneath Barangaroo Reserve lies one of Sydney’s most striking architectural feats, known as The Cutaway. Carved from sandstone and framed by soaring concrete walls, this vast subterranean space is being transformed into a world-class cultural venue.
Currently undergoing an $80 million redesign, the reimagined Cutaway will feature 13 sculptural timber “trees”, a three-level fit-out and First Nations design elements woven throughout. All of it has drawn inspirtation from the natural rock shelters (giba-gunya) of the site.
Set to reopen in early 2026, it will soon host everything from large-scale art exhibitions to immersive performances and major cultural events. Sleek, sustainable and unmistakably Sydney, The Cutaway is poised to become the city’s most talked-about creative landmark.

Sydney’s Gadigal Station Named Among the World’s Most Beautiful
Sydney’s striking Gadigal Station has been shortlisted in the Prix Versailles 2025 awards, recognising the world’s most beautiful passenger stations. Celebrated for its sleek design, sandstone detailing and striking art installations, the station has been praised as “the epitome of absolute modernity” by The Prix Versailles. Not only is the work a stunning tribute to Country and history, but it’s also a careful blend of future-focused architecture beneath the city’s streets.
Other finalists include Mons Station in Belgium, Baiyun Station in China, Saint-Denis – Pleyel Station in France, Gustave Roussy Station in France, Qasr Al Hokm Station in Saudi Arabia and KAFD Station in Saudi Arabia.
Bate Bay Crowned Australia’s Best Beach
Australia’s best beaches have officially been crowned, and this beach in Sydney’s south has claimed the top spot. Bate Bay has been dubbed Australia’s best, with Tourism Australia’s beach ambassador Brad Farmer calling it “Sydney’s longest, least crowded and most beautiful stretch of sand”.
Bate Bay, located in the Sutherland Shire, encompasses a collection of nine beaches and four ocean pools. With crystal clear waters and long stretches of pristine sand, it’s no wonder it comes so highly regarded.
Following Bate Bay comes Pinky Beach in Western Australia claiming second place and Beachcomber Cove in Queensland placing third. The list was curated by Brad Farmer, veteran beach expert and aims to promote coastal conservation in every state and territory in Australia.
