Sydney’s Cult-Favourite Charcoal Chicken Shop Is Now on the North Shore

El Jannah has spread its wings and is bringing their famous garlic sauce and delicious chicken north of the bridge.

Are you ready North Shore foodies? Cult-favourite charcoal chicken haven, El Jannah, has spread its wings and opened its first store north of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

This iconic Lebanese-Australian chain (which literally translates to "heaven" in Arabic) has brought its legendary flavours to Crows Nest, marking a strategic move in its mission to make its signature shared meals even more accessible to those craving a tasty treat.

What sets El Jannah apart? It's all about the chicken – always juicy and cooked to perfection over hot charcoal. The legendary garlic sauce, paired with fresh tabouli sourced directly from their parsley farms, adds a unique and unforgettable touch. More than than just a fast-food haven, El Jannah has become a premium dining experience that values quality, freshness, and the joy of sharing flavorful meals with loved ones (and a dining destination many of us have ventured far and wide to find).

The El Jannah Story: A Garden of Eden (and Flavour!)

El Jannah's roots trace back to the small village in Lebanon where founder Andre experienced his personal "Garden of Eden". With a small garden home to a few veggies and a lemon tree, the forest was his true pantry and the place where Andre would forage for plump birds, wild oregano and fresh fruit straight from the trees. After dark, every dish was cooked over an open wood fire and the place (and the memory it holds) is Andre's "paradise".

Arriving in Sydney due to war, Andre settled into metropolitan life, marrying, raising children and working as a taxi driver. But the pleasures, tastes and smells of his childhood beckoned, and opening his own restaurant based on the food he grew up making and eating became a dream that had to be realised.

After months of trial and error, the combination of five simple ingredients that have become renowned as El Jannah's signature charcoal chicken taste, was perfected.

In 1998, the doors of El Jannah's flagship store in Granville were opened and it soon became a beloved institution that had people queuing out the door every single day. Now, there are over 20 stores across New South Wales, Victoria, and the ACT - with the Crows Nest location the latest to welcome customers.
