Lowe Winery, Mudgee

Whether you’re looking to book a romantic weekend away, a few nights with your besties, or a place to break up a road trip, these NSW towns are the goods. Enjoy some of the best food and wine the country has to offer, visit historic attractions, or breathe easy in regional NSW’s stunning nature. 

Bowral, Southern Highlands 

There’s no shortage of things to do and see in Bowral, a gem of the Southern Highlands. Explore local vineyards, hike to the summit of Mt Gibraltar, or spend a day exploring local vintage and antique stores. A September visit coincides with the impressive Tulip Time Festival, when the town’s gardens are full of tulips of every size and colour. 

Cricket buffs will enjoy a visit to the Bradman Museum and International Hall of Fame, dedicated to local sports hero Don Bradman. 

Bermagui, Sapphire Coast

This scenic coastal spot on the state’s Sapphire Coast is bursting with things to do and see. You’ll find all things locally grown and made at the weekly Growers and Makers’ Market (October – April), or enjoy some of the best fishing spots along the coast. Discover Bermagui’s history as you wind your way along heritage trails, or take a dip in the Blue Pool, regularly ranked as one of the prettiest rock pools in Australia.

Mudgee, Central West 

If good food and wine are your vibe, Mudgee should be right at the top of your travel itinerary. Boasting some of the best vineyard restaurants in the state, Mudgee is a top destination for fine dining aficionados. In Spring, the town hosts the annual Mudgee Wine and Food Month, a celebration of the region’s very best culinary players.

Berry, Shoalhaven Region

Wander down Berry’s picturesque high street dotted with heritage buildings and charming boutiques. Stock up on local produce at the weekly Berry Farmers Markets, or visit one of the wineries and distilleries the region is famous for. 

If you can’t squeeze Berry onto your itinerary, make sure to pit stop here long enough to grab a donut from the famous Berry Donut Van

Dubbo, Great Western Plains 

One of Dubbo’s biggest attractions is undoubtedly the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Home to over 5,000 animals, this open range sanctuary can be enjoyed by bike, boat, car or on foot. If you’re more of a history buff than an animal fanatic, step back in time with a visit to the Dubbo Old Gaol

Blackheath, Blue Mountains 

Blackheath is the quintessential country town. Not only does it bring cosy vibes like nowhere else, but it’s the perfect place to stay if you’re keen to explore the Blue Mountains. Hike the famous Grand Canyon Track or enjoy the scenery at Govett’s Leap and Evans Lookout. If hiking isn’t your cup of tea, Blackheath offers plenty of other activities, too. Check out local markets, bookshops, cafes and delis, antique stores, or enjoy a spot of native bird spotting at the Campbell Rhododendron Gardens.
