Deadwax

This grungy pocket of Sydney’s Inner West is giving Newtown a run for its money, serving up an eclectic mix of neighbourhood bars that are as cool as they are character-filled. Known for its abundance of drinking holes, the buzz along Enmore Road and Marrickville Road is all the proof you need that this corner of Sydney knows how to party.

Whether you’re chasing craft brews, natural wines, or live music, you’ll find it here. Check out our handpicked guide to the best bars in Enmore and Marrickville to add to your next bar crawl itinerary.

Fortunate Son

Fortunate Son

The motto at Fortunate Son is ‘cool drinks, warm service’ and it’s incredibly accurate. The bar is worked by some of the loveliest people we’ve come across in our travels and the drinks are equally excellent. Expect a retro Americana atmosphere and endless mint juleps. If you’re catching a show at the Enmore, this petite bar is located opposite making it ideal for a pre or post-show sip.

Where’s Nick

Where’s Nick Wine Bar

Once a humble cake shop, this Marrickville haunt is now a haven for natural wine lovers. Where’s Nick champions minimal-intervention wines from small-batch producers, meaning fewer additives, less sugar, and a smoother morning after. They serve up a rotating selection, so you’ll never get bored, and a seasonal, Mediterranean-inspired food menu (hello, house-baked focaccia) is designed to pair perfectly with your pour.

The Magpie

The Magpie

It’s not every day you find a pint of Guinness that tastes (almost) as good as it does in Ireland, but The Magpie comes impressively close. This tiny pub channels the charm of UK drinking holes with its nostalgic fit-out — think Wetherspoons-esque carpet, white walls adorned with random art, and plenty of screens for live sport. Alongside Guinness, you’ll find Irish Coffee, craft beer, and a selection of local and international wines. Throw in regular meat raffles and you’ve got a laid-back, ’80s-style sports bar fantasy that might just be the best thing to happen to Enmore in years.

Lazybones

Lazybones Lounge Restaurant & Bar

Live music six nights a week? Yes, please. Lazybones is a jazz-forward speakeasy-style bar with neon lights, dazzling chandeliers, and a vibe that’s equal parts glam and grunge. The drinks list includes craft beers and classic cocktails, while the food menu spans pizzas to charcuterie boards. It’s a must for anyone who loves their beer with a side of saxophone.

Deadwax

Deadwax

Vinyl is back, and this cosy bar is spinning it loud and proud. This dedicated vinyl bar boasts a 400-strong collection, playing tunes from 4pm till late, with weekend nights stretching to 2am. There are vinyl request nights, a karaoke room for the brave, and a snacky Japanese-leaning menu — think ramen, karaage chicken, and Pringles by the can. The vibe? Pure 70s nostalgia. Say no more.

Gasoline Pony

Gasoline Pony

Live music is non-negotiable on a good bar hop, and Gasoline Pony delivers. Housed in a former paint shop, this Marrickville favourite is all about unpretentious vibes and quality tunes. Expect a stellar lineup of local craft beers (Grifter and Young Henrys are regulars) and comfort food like pizza and dumplings.

Titus Jones

Titus Jones

A little off the main drag, Titus Jones is well worth the detour. Tucked away on Illawarra Road, this offbeat, welcoming neighbourhood bar is the kind of place that feels like a local secret. The vibe is relaxed, with dim lighting, mismatched furniture, and a soundtrack of soulful tunes. The drinks menu leans heavily into local wines and tequila-based cocktails, with margaritas flowing freely. Tuesdays are a crowd favourite thanks to the $5 taco deal, while weekends draw in a lively mix of locals and bar hoppers looking to fuel up before or wind down after a night out. Whether you’re here for a cheeky midweek drink or a full-blown fiesta, Titus Jones delivers.

The Trocadero Room

The Trocadero Room

Under the shimmer of a disco ball, The Trocadero Room is where intimate gigs and great drinks collide. From Thursday to Sunday, the space comes alive with a rotating lineup of artists, spanning everything from indie and folk to funk and soul. The drinks menu is stacked with craft beers from local favourites like Grifter, Hawkes, and Philter, alongside classic cocktails and a solid wine list. Pizza is also on the menu to keep you going between sets.
