Speed Friending with Perth Book Club
Perth Book Club already does a pretty good job of linking up like-minded folks through their regular meet-ups, but they’re taking things up a notch this month. The premise is fairly simple: speed dating, but for friends, not dates. Hosted at Stables Bar, the evening will see you sit down with 10+ other readers for a quick moment of connection. There’ll be guided conversation cues covering book recs, hobbies and just general life to keep things flowing (although you’re more than welcome to go off-piste) and a drink on arrival to quiet any pre-dating nerves (we get it, making new friends is scary). Afterwards, there’s a DJ and bar so you can check back in with anyone you clicked with and swap details. Seats are limited, so snap up a ticket here — your future platonic soulmate could be waiting!
Where: Perth CBD
When: Thursday 16 July, 6-9pm
Cost: $33.08
Best For: Solo plans; Girls’ nights; Community events; Locals; Group catch-ups
Need To Know: Seats are limited — book via Eventbrite. Includes a welcome drink on arrival and DJ and bar afterwards.

The port city transforms into WA’s truffle capital for one weekend (10-12 July), with premium black truffles straight out of WA showing up across menus, markets and unmissable one-off events. Whether sampling truffle products in the festival’s main Truffle Hall, eating your way through the truffle-infused dishes in the Fremantle Markets (think: truffle-topped banh mi croissants, basque cheesecakes, gozleme and onigiri), or sipping truffle-led cocktails at Anglesea (the Japanese-Korean inspired restaurant based inside Garde Hotel), there’s enough happening to warrant a full self-led truffle crawl. Hell, you could even back it up with a Freo staycay at the newly opened Owston Hotel and make a whole weekend of it.

Christmas in July
Our Christmases tend to be more poolside BBQ than fireside roast, so for those chasing a northern hemisphere-style holiday, Christmas in July is where it’s at. Across Perth, you’ll find lots of wintery festivities worthy of your ugliest Christmas sweater. In our opinion, though, Irish pubs like J.B. O’Reilly’s, Galway Hooker and Johnny Fox’s do it best. Think giant roast dinners with all the trimmings; mulled wine, Irish coffees and Guinness; cracking fires and live Irish music.
For families, we’d like to give a special mention to the Victoria Park Hotel. They’re throwing a massive Christmas in July celebration on Sunday 26 July, complete with a snowflake sparkle bar where kids can make their own snow globes (so cute!). Bookings are reccommeded.
