Mettam’s Pool

North of the bustling and popular Trigg Beach, Mettam’s Pool is a natural rock pool sheltered by offshore reefs, creating calm, crystal-clear waters ideal for snorkeling or a gentle dip. Its serene setting and abundant marine life—think colorful fish and corals—make it a quiet alternative to Perth’s more popular coastal spots. It’s a local secret that promises a relaxing day by the ocean.

The Omeo Shipwreck

Off the coast of Coogee Beach, south of Fremantle, lies the Omeo Wreck Trail, an underwater adventure for snorkellers. The remnants of this 19th-century steamship, sunk in 1905, are scattered across the ocean floor, surrounded by marine life. Marked by buoys, it lies just under-water, only 25 km from the shore, making it an accessible yet lesser-known spot that combines history and nature in one.

You don’t have to be a space nerd to enjoy the Perth Observatory. Hidden away in the hills outside the city, it’s a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. It’s not about knowing every constellation, but about slowing down and soaking in the vastness of the night sky. Heirisson Island

Heirisson Island is a hidden nature sanctuary on the Swan River and definitely one of Perth’s best kept secrets. Despite being in the middle of the city, what makes Heirisson Island particularly special is its resident kangaroos that roam freely in a fenced-off section, giving you the rare chance to observe them up close in their natural habitat. The island is also of significant cultural importance to the local Noongar people, and a statue of Yagan, a prominent Noongar leader, stands proudly on the island as a reminder of its Indigenous heritage.

Bold Park

While Kings Park often hogs the spotlight, Bold Park remains a lesser-known native bushland. Tucked away in City Beach, the expanse features over 15 kilometres of walking trails, lookouts with panoramic views, and an amazing amount of flora and fauna, including several endangered species. The Reabold Hill Summit Boardwalk offers one of the highest points in the metro area, providing sweeping views of the Indian Ocean and Perth’s skyline. It’s a serene retreat not far from the city, perfect for hiking, birdwatching, or simply connecting to nature.
