Living in Caulfield
The Locals

Leafy, friendly, and oh so liveable, family-oriented Caulfield has lots of charm. Living in Caulfield means being part of the multicultural epicentre of Melbourne’s Jewish community, which has more atmosphere than other equally affluent suburbs throughout the city. This appealing culture is amplified by the neighbourhood’s sizeable student population and close proximity to eclectic St Kilda and the CBD, making Caulfield a popular choice for those who like their streets quiet but character-filled.

Caulfield is a residential area first and foremost. Glen Huntly Road’s few cafés are the perfect spot for chatty neighbours to catch up over bagels and newspapers, while children ride their bikes through the area’s wide and welcoming streets. Locals living in Caulfield are more likely to while away their spare time lounging in one of the neighbourhood’s many lush, green parks than indulging in late-night revelry. As a result, the drinking, dining, and shopping scenes are somewhat limited—this doesn’t pose a problem thanks to Caulfield’s buzzy neighbouring suburbs. However, the action does come to town in the form of the Caulfield Cup—the glitz and glamour of the annual racing carnival brings the area to life. Otherwise, it’s all about that laid-back lifestyle.

Area Features

Park Life

Locals like nothing more than kicking back in one of the neighbourhood’s many lush green spaces, with the much-loved Caulfield Park a firm favourite.

Culture Treats

From bagels to latkes, the strong presence of Caulfield’s Jewish community can be felt in the neighbourhood’s choice of snacks.

Education

This community is a haven for education, with Monash University’s Caulfield campus and a number of reputable public and private schools within its borders.

Cosmopolitan Caulfield is the stronghold of Melbourne’s Jewish community, lending the area a cultured appeal. It is also home to a large number of students who attend the Monash University campus in the neighbourhood and are drawn to nearby St Kilda’s exciting dining scene and bustling nightlife. The area’s abundant parks and spacious homes are a dream for young families. Add to that the countless good schools, and it’s no wonder that Caulfield is considered the perfect spot to raise little ones. Older couples and retirees are equally enamoured of the area’s many charms. With suburban calm convenient to the city on offer – it’s no wonder.
