Living in Armadale
The Locals

Lush streets, delightful homes, and the kind of neighbourly feel that families just can’t get enough of—there’s a reason living in Armadale is so well loved by Melbourne’s established set. Add to that a convenient inner-city location and a buzzing café and shopping scene, and there’s not much left to be desired. In fact, the only thing Armadale lacks is nightlife—but that’s all part of its charm.

Armadale’s main artery is the thriving High Street shopping strip, and what was once the domain of bridal stores and upmarket antiques has seriously upped its game. In fact, High Street is now home to a veritable who’s who of local and international designers. You name it, they’ve got it. In addition, it still plays host to the beautiful wedding dresses and collectors’ items that first made its name.

The area’s luxe feel is exemplified by the beautiful National Trust-listed Kings Arcade, while more low-key shopping errands can be run just around the corner on Glenferrie Road. Complemented by a booming café scene (offering everything from the strictly organic and gluten-free to the sugar-laden and deep-fried), living in Armadale certainly has a whole lot going for it.

Cafe Culture

As is only fitting for one of Melbourne’s premier suburbs, Armadale’s many delectable cafés do a roaring trade week in, week out.

Grand Homes

Armadale’s wide streets are just the place for mansion spotting, with its countless awe-inspiring period homes merely par for the course.

Well-established Armadale has been home to Melbourne’s affluent set for generations, and is a firm favourite amongst families and retirees. The warm community feel, prestigious schools, designer boutiques and pretty homes mean that postcode-proud locals tend not to want to leave in a hurry. The suburb’s prime location, just seven kilometres from the CBD, also makes it an attractive rental prospect for young city workers who are drawn to the thriving shopping and café scenes.
