New Farm Cafes for Your Weekend Wind-Down

The New Farm cafes that deserve a place on your weekend rotation.

Where better to spend a slow Sunday, than the charming suburb of New Farm?

It’s the perfect place to plan a breakfast, brunch or a long lunch, followed by a stroll (or a lie-down) in the park. You could even take the riverwalk over to Howard Smith Wharves for an afternoon drink, to really stretch out the good vibes on your weekend adventure.

We’ve curated our favourite New Farm cafes for you below, to make sure you can have the delightful day you deserve this weekend.

Idle

The next chapter from the good folk behind beloved (now-closed) bakery Agnes, Idle is a bakery and then some. This all-day dining destination also serves up a menu of brunch favourites, including omelettes and Euro plates. Think heirloom tomato toast, through to continental plates and even a hearty beef burger.

Idle is reimagining classic treats with a fresh Aussie twist. Think wattle seed choc chip cookies, Victoria sponge stuffed with seasonal jams and mango croissants. Every ingredient is top-tier, from the butter they culture in-house to the handmade jams.

84 Merthyr Road, New Farm

New Farm Deli

No one does Italian better than New Farm Deli! This deli and cafe have been operating since 1975, and it shows in their incredibly curated grocery aisles, decadent desserts and traditional menu.

Enjoy spicy lamb mince, a bacon and egg panino or an Italian-style omelette to break your fast. If you’re visiting for lunch, try some antipasti along with a cocktail to transport yourself back to those Euro summer mems.

Made from quality, seasonal and local produce, you’ll feel like you just sat down to eat at your Nonna’s table.

Merthyr Village, 900 Brunswick Street, New Farm

Blue Bear Coffeehouse

This cosy neighbourhood cafe puts just as much onus on the food as the coffee, and that’s just the way we like it. You can expect a smorgasbord of delicious brunch staples, as well as some fancier additions like birria jaffles. They even have their own smoker, so keep an eye on socials for when they pop a slab of the good stuff in. And, when it comes time to dessert, Blue Bear have a selection of delicious house-baked treats ranging from cinny scrolls to chunky cookies.

Franc

When it’s a quick coffee and a delish pastry you’re after, Franc is always a top shout. Swing by for a house-made pork and fennel sausage roll or red wine and beef pie, and grab a cheeky slice of baked ricotta cheesecake for the road.

Dicki’s

One of the most beloved vegan spots in Brisbane, Dicki’s is a favourite for a filling brekkie, delicious coffee or a sweet treat to perk up your afternoon.

Dine al fresco or in the cool indoor dining space, from a menu that spans toast, burgers, brekkie burritos and toasties.  The drinks menu is almost as long as the food, with ample coffee, tea, juice or smoothie options to take your brunch to the next level.

Hey Mr

Housed in a historic corner store (once home to The Little Larder), this brekkie spot dishes up modern brunch favourites with a worldwide flavour.

The menu here changes seasonally, so you can always find something new to enjoy one each visit to Hey Mr.

Kin

If you’re chasing one of the best strawberry matchas in town, stray a little further from New Farm to the neighbouring suburb of Teneriffe to visit Kin.

Grab some takeaway from the coffee window, or head indoors to take a seat for full service, a la carte breakfast and brunch. The menu is always changing up (and the weekday offering differs from the weekends), but you can expect delicious choices like coconut rice pudding, acai bowls, eggs your way or a Spanish omelette.

24 Macquarie Street, Teneriffe

Sippy Tom

Just a hop, skip and jump from New Farm, in neighbouring Teneriffe, you’ll find Sippy Tom. This cool cafe is doing elevated brunch fare in sleek surrounds (we’re talking charred corn fritters and green goddess bowls with risoni), made from stacks of local producers that you can check out on their website.
