The Brisbane Cafe Openings in 2024 That Topped Our Charts

There’s something magical about going out for breakfast on the weekend with your besties or your bae. Brisbane is a city that well and truly rises early, and we never miss an opportunity to soak up the sunshine at our local cafe or favourite coffee haunt.

Throughout 2024 we welcomed new cafes across the city, that bring their own energy and flavour to the river city, making sure we’re never bored of a morning.

Speed Dial, Newstead

The perfect pit stop on your Sunday Bunnings run is Speed Dial, Newstead’s new little coffee haven. This shipping container-sized coffee shop was brought to life by Jayden O’Grady, Hal Cozens and Timothy Cashin (Belissimo and Coffee Supreme alumni), and its mission is to deliver top-notch coffee in a quick, convenient and inclusive way.

This little coffee nook is a great spot for a takeaway (there are also toasties and Sprout pastries on the menu!), but there are a few stools at hand if you’d like to linger a little longer over your pour-over.

Nos. Bakehouse & Cafe, Dutton Park

Serving nostalgia alongside baked goods, this Dutton Park newbie is housed in a historic shopfront on Annerley Road. Nos. Bakehouse & Cafe serves a succinct but expertly honed menu of their signature shokupan sandos (vegan options are being tested!), desserts and drinks.

If you have a sweet tooth, sample the ube basque cheesecake or souffle brulee French toast, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Hey Boo Boo

Serving up some of the most Instagrammable sandwiches around are the fun and friendly crew behind Hey Boo Boo in Chinatown Mall. Another surefire fast favourite from the team behind the Mr Duncan’s Collective, the menu at the Deli revolves around the house made focaccia, with both sweet and savoury sandwiches to take your breath away with every bite.

Wash your sando down with a creamy gelato shake for the ultimate Hey Boo Boo experience.

Evra Marketplace

It’s not often you come across a farm-to-table eatery that can offer food with a zero-kilometre footprint. Evra Marketplace is Newstead’s new coastal and rural inspire bodega, serving delicious and authentic cuisine, prepared simply as nature intended.

The rooftop farm supplies Evra with fresh eggs and honey, along with chemical-free, pesticide-free, and preservative-free fruits, vegetables and herbs. Pick up a nutrient-dense smoothie crafted by wellness professionals, a healthy and convenient ready-made meal or a perfectly brewed coffee to power your best day yet.

SNUG

Snug is everything its name suggests–cute, cosy and makes you feel at home. This little suburban cafe is quickly capturing the hearts (and taste buds) of locals with its Korean-inspired brunch menu.

Sit in the sunshine and enjoy morsels like honey butter bread (a milk bread slowly caramelised with honey butter & sea salt) or an egg drop sandwich (a popular Korean brekkie staple, with softly scrambled eggs served cocooned in milk bread).

From 4:00pm, Snug reinvents itself as a wine bar, serving small plates to nibble on as the afternoon hours while away.

Supernova

From the team who brought you Mitch & Antler, and James & Antler last year, comes a brand new cafe set to tantalise your tastebuds. Brothers TH & Chewie Choo have brought their love of Japanese eats to life in this fresh-faced new cafe in Fortitude Valley.

Dishing up classic Japanese snacks like sandos, soba noodle salads and matcha drinks with a hit of Yakult (if you know, you know), this weekday wonder is about to become your new favourite lunchbreak pitstop.

Temple Boba

A seriously chic bubble tea cafe has just popped up in Hamilton. Visit Temple Boba to pay your respects to the bubbly, chewy and addictive drink that we just can’t get enough of!

Portside Wharf will soon welcome an elegant sanctuary for bubble tea aficionados, where you can craft your very own bubble tea precisely to your preference! With a sustainable approach from the supply chain down to their packaging, Temple Boba aims to do things a little differently in the beverage world.

Hawthorne Coffee

A new coffee nook has opened its doors to Morningside locals. With only a handful of tables inside, but droves of sunlight, Hawthorne Coffee is your new favourite place to pop by for a cup of liquid sunshine.

You can also order sourdough toasties and more-ish muffins from the menu, along with brekkie classics like avocado on toast, acai bowls and bacon and egg muffins.

Mourning Roast

Mourning your sleep in? We hear misery loves company, so head down to this new Brisbane cafe to put a smile back on your dial.

Founded by partners in life, love and business, Sam & Nadine infused their passion for creating a unique space for the community to come together and share in the morning ritual of coffee at Mourning Roast.

The house signature blend is a dark-roasted coffee that delivers intense, strong character with notes of dark chocolate, brown sugar, and toasted almonds, the perfect wake-up-call for those sleepy morning commutes.

And now, you’ll have the opportunity to try it for yourself, in the brand-new Newstead location! So if you’re on the hunt for one of the best new cafes in Brisbane to grab a coffee this weekend, Toby’s Estate is the one for you.

You butter believe it, Chinatown has a brand-new cafe! Buttery Boy is Fortitude Valley’s newest cafe, slinging fluffy stacked flapjacks for the perfect morning treat. Partnered with Supreme Coffee Roasters, you can also stop in for an immaculate brewed cup of goodness on your way to work, or before a day spent wandering around the city's fringe. If pancakes aren’t your thing, there are plenty of brekkie options on the menu, like a smashed potato rosti, gourmet burgers, waffles or even pizza pockets.

A Cafe Called Kevin

From the fiery ruins of the Taj Mahal restaurant on Brunswick Street emerges Kevin, a fresh new face on the Brisbane cafe scene.
