Have a pastry craving that just won’t quit? You're not alone. Check out our list to decide which are the best bakeries in Brisbane.

Bella & Tortie

Running low on #croissantent? Never fear. Brisbane has some amazing bakeries around town, and we have selflessly volunteered ourselves to explore them for you. How nice are we?

Whether you’re searching for the perfect Sunday loaf of sourdough to last you the week or plan to carb-load for breakfast, you’re spoiled for choice across the city.

Head out for breakfast anywhere from West End to Everton Park, Brisbane’s best bakeries are spread across the city to make sure your sugar or sourdough cravings can be easily conquered.

Idle Bakery

The next chapter from the good folk behind beloved (now-closed) bakery Agnes, Idle is a bakery and then some. This all-day dining destination also serves up a menu of brunch favourites, including omelettes and Euro plates.

But it’s the bakes we’re here to talk about today. Idle is reimagining classic treats with a fresh Aussie twist. Think wattle seed choc chip cookies, Victoria sponge stuffed with seasonal jams and mango croissants. Every ingredient is top-tier, from the butter they culture in-house to the handmade jams.

84 Merthyr Road, Brisbane

Queen Amann Bakery

Queen Amann‘s signature pastry is a kouign-amann, which co-owner Larry Lim describes as “flaky, buttery, and a little bit full of itself”. Made with petalled squares of flaky pastry, oodles of butter and just the right amount of sugar, these laminated dough pastries are a pastry-lover’s dream.

The bakery is a collaborative project between Lim, Ania Kotek and Eddy Tice, the geniuses behind your other favourite haunts — NYC Bagel Deli, Cordelia Sourdough Bakehouse and Superthing, to name a few.

King Street, Bowen Hills

Pippa’s Pantry

Everything at Pippa’s Pantry is made fresh daily, from 100% vegan ingredients, and they’re dedicated to making each product as fluffy and moreish as any non-vegan cake out there.

On the menu, you’ll find savoury morsels like Vegemite and cheese scrolls, cheeseburger scrolls and ham and cheese croissants, whilst the sweet menu spans doughnuts, croissants, scrolls, cupcakes and cookies of various decadent flavours.

565 Old Cleveland Road, Camp Hill

Bella & Tortie

Perhaps the best-kept secret on the Brisbane bakery scene is Bella & Tortie. Based in Stafford, this cosy little nook is open just two days a week, and the line out the door speaks for itself.

The cabinets here are full of single-serve cakes, tarts, cookies and caneles (a French pastry flavoured with rum and vanilla).

Each little morsel is made with high-quality ingredients, which means you’re getting an absolute flavour sensation, because every little detail has been lovingly thought out, weighed, iterated and tested to perfection.

Pop some coffee in a keep cup and line up — it’s worth the wait!

12/ 240 Stafford Road, Stafford Central, Stafford

Baker d Chirico

Beloved Baker Daniel Chirico has brought his renowned artisanal treats to the bougie food district of Newstead — the perfect fit for a bakery of such exacting standards. With a fit-out by March Studio, the interior looks more like a modern gallery than a bread and sweet-treat dealer, but is designed to make you feel like you’re inside a bread basket, after all.

With loaves, sweet and savoury treats and cafe goodies to choose from here at Baker d Chirico, each morsel is slow-baked in small batches to maintain the integrity and flavour.
18 Longland Street, Newstead

Rise Bakery

Pouring a selection of teas and an arabica specialty coffee bean, with subtle aromas of cocoa, hazelnut and caramelised orange, your morning cuppa is more than catered for at Rise.

Feeling like something a little more… sparkly? Pair your croissant with a glass of champagne! With windows full of French-inspired pastries of sweet and savoury varieties, you’re bound to be in heaven when you step across the threshold of this glowing bakery.

Flour & Chocolate

This cult favourite bakery began with a twist when one-half of the husband and wife duo answered the phone with “I wake up with Today”. Kylie and Lachlan Scott landing this $20,000 windfall allowed them to finally realise their dream of owning their own bakery, and Brisbane has been blessed ever since.

The Scotts are not the type to back down from a challenge, and this shines through in their experimental baked creations. They were one of the first to try out the viral cronut sensation, which helped to put Flour & Chocolate on the map.

Visit this Brisbane bakery for sweet treats, savoury snacks, or a tasty lunchtime bagel.

Popping up at the Rocklea Markets and now with a well-established shopfront on bustling James Street, you best get in quick before the daily bread is sold out.
