The Best Sandwiches in Melbourne for an Instant Foodie Fix

From the sauciest of schnitzels to spanakopita-inspired toasties, here’s where you’ll find the best sandwiches in Melbourne.

Charlie’s Niddrie

One of the biggest culinary glow-ups of the last few years is without a doubt the humble sando and with no disrespect to the classics (Devon and tomato sauce we see you), we couldn’t be more here for it. A snack, a meal, and now even a dessert, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to this ever so versatile dish. Whether you’re craving a bad and boujee lobster roll, a bagel, or a classic salad sandwich, here’s where you’ll find the best sandwiches in Melbourne.

Roger Roger

Roger Roger

Roger Roger Deli in Caroline Springs is a sandwich lover’s dream, dishing out next-level focaccias and melts that keep locals coming back for more. The standout? The chicken cotoletta focaccia, packed with crispy chicken, basil pesto, rocket, pickled onion, and salsa verde, with a punch of chilli oil and provolone if you’re feeling bold. Each bite is a flavour-packed delight.

With a menu that’s just as impressive as its viral desserts (think Dubai Chocolate tiramisu and glorious pistachio and coffee crema), Roger Roger is your go-to for sandwiches that hit all the right notes. Don’t miss it!

Think poached chicken smothered in green goddess sauce, thick veggie sandwiches, or a mouthwatering mild salami ficelle with provolone and dill pickles. The simple ham and mustard baguette always hits the spot, but for something more inventive, the harissa-spiced tuna or fig, jam, and cheddar ficelle hit all the right notes, delivering a sandwich experience that’s fresh, satisfying, and uniquely delicious.

The Salad Sando gives the humble classic a facelift, layering yuzu guacamole, pickled beetroot, carrot, butter lettuce, cucumber, and harissa hummus (we recommend adding cheese). Attached to the beloved Italian eatery Trattoria Emilia, Emilietta Tigelleria serves up its signature style, with options including the Raffinata, filled with 24-month prosciutto crudo di Parma, mixed leaves, stracciatella, and a Parmigiano Reggiano tuile, and the Osvaldo: scrumptious free-range chicken with smoked scamorza, salad, and a parsley mayo.

The Gorda is a mortadella lovers dream, while veggie lovers will be vying for the Primavera, packed with zucchini flowers, mozzarella, basil pesto, and lemon oil. Yum!
