Aunty

Early Feb will see The Tassis Group (Longwang, Fat Cow, Stilts) drop their 12th venue in a stellar start to the year. Aunty will be serving up elegant, considered and warm interiors, alongside a generous modern Asian menu designed to be shared.

Despite seating up to 100 guests, the space has been designed to host intimate moments, with dining areas spread across multiple levels with booths and curtains contributing to the mood.

As for the menu, you’ll find a dedicated dim sum selection, alongside signature dishes like chilli mud crab and half duck cooked two ways. A huge offering of over 250 complements the food offering, alongside creative Asian-inspired cocktails.

You’ll find us at the daily happy hour (3pm to 5pm), snacking on $12 lobster rolls and spritz.

+81 Sushi Kappo

Slated to open in early February, this 12-seat omakase restaurant is destined to be the hottest ticket in town. Helmed by Tokyo-trained chef Ikuo Kobayashi, Brisbane is in for a treat.

The intimate dining experience will explore a connection with the diner and the chef, with each course prepared at the counter. Across multiple courses, guests will journey through micro seasons via hyper seasonal ingredients as well as speciality ingredients imported from Japan.

The dining room will complement the experience, with a minimalist and refined palette and style.

The experience is rounded out with a selection of artisanal sake, rare Japanese whiskies and a selection of premium wines.

The French Exit

This summer, you’re invited to step off the streets of Brissie and into a French-inspired bistro where the simple pleasures of wine, butter, bread and good company are the stars of the show.

From the talented people behind Agnes, sAme sAme, hôntô and Biànca, amongst others, The French Exit welcomes guests with elegant interiors by the renowned Tamsin Johnson. Decadence meets simplicity and is reflective of the menu, which centres around comforting and soulful French dishes. The kitchen, helmed by John-Paul Fiechtner and Ryan Carlson, will be turning out Brisbane’s finest produce in the form of steak frites, duck à l’orange, escargot and ananas givré.

As for drinks, it’s little surprise that the great wine regions of France will be taking centre stage, alongside craft cocktails and a selection of Australian drops. One for your summer list!

Annamese

When we think of Vietnamese, often the first thing to pop into our minds is street food staples — rice paper rolls, banh mi and coffee laced with condensed milk. If this is where your mind goes, it’s time to luxuriate in some heartier fare. The team behind Brissy faves Ming Ming Kitchen and Pho Real Vietnamese have crafted a space where just such a feast can take place.

Annamese, their latest opening, offers an elevated dining room where guests are invited to dine on traditional Vietnamese flavours with contemporary flair. Kick off with oysters drizzled with chilli, kaffir lime leaf and lemongrass, whilst sipping on a spicy sour margarita. Move into steaming bowls of Vietnamese beef stew and grilled pork belly, before rounding out your feast with pandan sticky rice. Sold?
