The Best Burgers in Sydney: An Odyssey

Trust us, you'll want your burger stacked at these mouthwatering joints, serving up some of the best burgers in Sydney.

The Gidley

When it comes to crowd-pleasing comfort food, you can’t go wrong with a juicy burger. Whether it’s stacked with succulent beef patties or brimming with veggie delights, a classic hamburger ticks every box.

Lucky for you, Sydney has plenty of patty-flipping burger joints dedicated to the all-American classic. So, the next time the cravings hit, we’ve rounded up the best burgers in Sydney. You’re welcome.

Cafe Margaret

Neil Perry’s Double Bay venue just landed third place on the World’s 101 Best Burgers list for 2026, and if you’ve tried the burger, you won’t be surprised. Crowned number 10 in the World’s 25 Best Burgers, Perry’s outpost Next Door (which has since closed) was already renowned for its patty game, and Cafe Margaret has picked up right where it left off. Expect a 200-gram CopperTree Farms beef patty with rose mayo, onion and pickles, with the option to add chilli, bacon or hash browns. One bite and the accolade makes complete sense.

The International

The Grill at The International has gone all-in on their burger, and it’s paid off in the form of 10th place on the World’s 101 Best Burgers for 2026. It’s a bespoke O’Connor beef patty developed with master butcher Anthony Puharich, topped with onions slow-cooked and flambéed with Hennessy XO and green peppercorns, finished with a combination of aged Australian cheddar and American cheese. If we’re being honest, the Hennessy onions alone are worth the trip.

Clam Bar

If you’re going to spend $38 on a burger, this is the one. The team behind Pellegrino 2000 and Bistrot 916 opened Clam Bar as a New York-style chophouse, and the burger is exactly what you’d hope for from that pedigree. Chow down on a delicious a 250g wood-fired beef patty with a proper charred crust, melted American cheese, caramelised onions, bacon, pickle and a sharp dijonnaise. No fancy greens, no unnecessary garnish, just a very serious burger done with complete conviction. The kind you think about for days after.

Razz Room

Razz Room is already one of Sydney’s most fun nights out given it’s a 1970s-style underground daiquiri bar on York Street with a sunken dancefloor and live music. That being said, the Dirty Royale Cheeseburger is reason enough to go on its own. A wagyu patty stacked with Red Leicester, ketchup, mustard and pickles, served cut in half and sitting in a pool of cheese fondue. It’s messy, it’s indulgent and it’s almost certainly the right thing to eat at 9pm with a daiquiri in your other hand. Order before service stops at 10pm or you’ll regret it.

Char’d Chicken

The chicken burger debate in Sydney is a heated one, but Char’d has a pretty strong case. The birds are brined for 48 hours before hitting actual coals, which gives the meat a smoky depth that’s just so good. Every sauce is made in-house, and there’s a strict 15-minute rule on cooked chicken sitting in the kitchen, which means what lands in front of you is always straight off the flame. That makes it a goodie in our opinion!

End Of King

The fish burger from Newtown’s End of King has got everyone talking. Two thick barramundi fillets, battered and fried to order, stacked with melted American cheese, pickled onion and a house-made salmon egg tartare that takes the whole thing somewhere well beyond your average fish burger. It’s nostalgic and completely over the top in the best possible way.

The Gidley

The Gidley

Taking out twelfth place in The World’s Top Ten Burgers list (compiled by the same connoisseurs behind the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants), The Gidley Burger is easily the most talked about burger in Sydney. You’re free to order this iconic burg from the glamorous dining room or the plush lounge bar. Keeping it classic, you’ll be served a double beef burger with cheddar and pickles and the very Aussie option of adding bacon or egg.

Mona Social

Hailing from the Northern Beaches, the Wagyu Cheeseburger at the Boathouse Group’s Mona Social is a menu standout. A wagyu beef patty on a soft, pillowy bun, topped with onion, pickles, American mustard and ketchup. It’s not complicated – it’s simple done just right.

Paul’s Hamburgers

Paul’s Hamburgers

If you’re after a uniquely Australian chip shop burger, it’s got to be Paul’s. Located right on the outskirts of the Sutherland Shire, this historic family-owned burger bar has been going strong since 1957. For the most authentic order of the lot, go for the Famous Works burger which includes lettuce, tomato, raw onion, tomato sauce, egg, bacon, cheese and pineapple.

Sitchu Tip: Your meal isn’t complete without a cup (or bottle) of Paul’s pineapple crush.

As well as your usual meat options, they also have a dedicated vegetarian menu and their vegan Baywatch burger (patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheeseburger sauce), is super popular.
